An older version of Sam. The days of eating ridiculous amounts of fast food with Will and trash-talking people's attire are a thing of the past; one she's hardly aware of now.

I haven't seen so good art from you for some time. The cat is ridiculously well done and overall it just looks great.

the cat looking like a cat is sheer luck. she wasn't even there in the pencil sketch, I just randomly added her directly with the ink brush :D

Good to see more stuff of your OCs again! I like this picture too! You create an interesting atmosphere with the brownish paper and the ink-like outlines. Does she has scars on her hips?
chid0's avatar
yeah she does, I assume her cry for attention wasn't limited to just dying her hair pink. But they disappear almost completely when she gets older :] I love the paper; it's a whole sketchbook made out of this rough dark brownish paper. It's like drawing on cardboard :D

I saw a friend using that paper. The results are really pretty!

What happened to make her that unhappy? The whole situation with her dad or something different?
chid0's avatar
Yeah, it wasn't just the neglect... she befriended one of his employees, and later on found out that her father was directly responsible for a lethal accident her friend suffered - so she ran away and things got pretty awful for her afterwards. She joins a militant anarchist group, becomes involved with the abusive leader of the group... But she does get out of it all at some point so there's a sort of happy ending for her :]

Ooh, who are these characters? I like her hair!

They're from a story I've been working on for like, half of my life. I was delighted by your Fenna-Gediman dynamic to a large extent because a scientists unhealthy obsession with his creation is a central theme in that story :] This here is the scientists daughter, Samantha. She grows up wealthy but neglected by her increasingly preoccupied father, runs away at an early age and ends up being his main antagonist, a human rights activist and freelance journalist.

Ooooooh I love it! :D I love scientists with obsessions and child abandonment. Frankenstein was my favorite novel! :3

Ha, is Samantha's dad's obsession also a sexy alien girl? :P
chid0's avatar
haha no, not an alien in my case :D he's working on a way to directly compose people's genomes instead of relying on chance and random mutation as the basis for the genetic make-up of the individual... he made her as a proof-of-principle, and he did add a few traits normally not occuring in humans, but she's at least outwardly very human-looking :] Can't judge the sexy part; I guess that's in the eye of the beholder :]
Flameshadow117's avatar
Oooh cool, so she's a science experiment! But then, why does he neglect her, isn't she part of his work?

And... She's not really his daughter, then? Or does she share any genetics with him? Like, did he start with his own genome and that of a lady friend as a basis, or did he basically cook her up from scratch? Maybe threw in some dolphin genes for good measure. :P

The girl in this picture is his regular daughter, not his experiment :] they're two different people. He neglects his daughter because of being preoccupied with work (he doesn't see the product of his work as a person, let alone a daughter).

And well, it's neither. Cooked up from scratch fits the closest. Most of the work was done for him by a powerful computer running a genome assembly software; so he basically started out with a concept, put her together in silico, then sythetized the genome accordingly; wrapped it snugly in artificially grown cell mass, and seeded several versions (those genomes that showed most promising viability scores in the simulations) into maturation chambers :] But yeah it's definitely not just human genes in there.

Maybe this helps?

Scientist on the right, his daughter on the left, his project in the middle (top right) :D
Flameshadow117's avatar
Oooohh, I see! I didn't realize there were two "she"'s :P

So science-project girl looks pretty normal. How does she turn out? I bet his actual daughter has complicated feelings about her.
......i hope its the thing where they resent each other at first but then end up friends. :meow:
chid0's avatar
Yeah, complicated and confused, above all. I don't think there's resentment on either side... first and foremost, the scientists daughter eventually convinces herself that the thing her father made is a thing, something that shouldn't exist, and spends most of her life campaigning against this sort of tampering. But the story has no ending as of yet, so I can't say for sure as what they end up :]
