Just what is it that makes an artist?  At what point does art go from casual doodling to full blown artistic piece?  At what point does a person go from casual scribbler to artist?  Can you even measure such a thing?  Should you?These are some of the questions that have been circling around me head as of late.  My discovery of DeviantArt a few years ago has been both a blessing a a curse.  A blessing in that it gave me an artistic outlet and a way to dramatically improve my drawing skills.  Don't believe me?  Just take a look at some of my first submissions to the site: Then compare them to my more recent art: An improvement!  At least...

After several months of intense artistic combat, the Brightmarrow Tourney has come to a finish. The experience was fantastic and refreshing.  I was pitted against some really excellent artists and storytellers.  And, for the first time on DA, I actually saw an event the whole way through, so there's that.  I didn't win, but I came darn close, apparently.  It's not about the winning, though.  It's about the collaboration and the artistic exercise.  It's the chance to come out of your comfort zone and work together and, in the Proving Grounds' case, enrich a setting.To be honest, I am a little disappointed to have come so close to victory,...

Alright.  So I tend to, well, not finish things.  I got involved with AngelCrusher's AFL III and only finished maybe three rounds before dropping out.  I got quite involved with the DA Secret Wars thing Kostmeyer hosted.  Never really followed through on that, either.  The whole thing left me feeling guilty and embarrassed and I left DA for a while. Then, a long while later, I checked back in to see Bug-Off running his Proving Grounds event.  I felt the familiar itch and decided to dive in.  The fear of not finishing eas present in my mind, but I thought that if I could at least last it out until I was eliminated, I could redeem myself, so...
