Tutorial - ChibiEdo's Drawing Tutorial Part 1- Scanning and preparing lineart

EDIT: I found something missing in the tut.. have to fix it soon, probably tomorrow.
Directly after: "Don't worry though. They will look nicer again when the picture is resized."
You have to change the picture to grayscale via Image -> Mode -> Grayscale or sth similar.
AFTER that you set it to RGB..
I wonder why I missed that... maybe because of the picture which shows the grayscale selection? I dunno..

Ok I was thinking about doing a tutorial on how I draw since a while now and I finally got the motivation to do so. This is the first part.

I really hope it will help you a bit!

Does this work if I use a camera instead of a scanner? :O

Yes kinda. XD Start at step 3 but before that change your picture's brightness and contrast so that white appears purely white first (Gradation curves might be helpful here too if you know them).
The problem here though (which is one of the reasosn why I switched to pure black and white pictures aside from the blue pencil reason) is the following:
Maybe it's just me but I usually can't get the white to look totally white.. It does look like that to me but when I select 'white' via the channels and erase the white it seems ok at first. But later I notice that the white around the picture is not fully gone.. it's more of a very very low opacity white. Which very slightly changes the colours when I colour. Which is normally ok but if I really want a picture with a transparent background it makes problems.
But like I said.. maybe I'm just not good at the brightness and contrast setting..
