TL;DR? Then please do NOT comment.
Sorry, I'm having some trouble with people not knowing how to read before they become angry... =_=;

A lot of people on dA seem to want pageviews, favs, watchers, or really all seems to do something with wanting to be "popular"

...I don't think people should be drawing just for popularity... yes, maybe if they make a living off making art and have an actual job with it and their actual life depended on it (like food, water, shelter)...but the plain fact is that on dA most people draw as a hobby. So shouldn't hobby drawing be for fun and not to get "adoring fans"?

I mean yeah, it's nice to know people like your art, and yes it does make you feel good...I'm no different...but some people actually seem to be driven to draw only for popularity, whether they are popular already or not...

Actually I've seen some artist (no names >:0 ) say they'll stop drawing cause they "don't have enough fans" it kind of makes me wonder if they only create art to be loved/adored? 0~0; What happened to making art for things like enjoyment or stress relief? Isn't that how true art should be for? ;^;

I think a true artist looks past popularity and continues for enjoyment... I personally don't count those artists that only draw for popularity as actual artists, no matter how "good" their art is...

...but this is just my opinion though... You can disagree or agree, everyone has their own opinions~ so let's all respect everyone's opinions; me and you together~ ^u^ fighting/flamming >:0 ...but friendly debate = yay

anyone can use this stamp~ no need to fav or whatever, it's free for use~ <3

It's fine if you want recognition for your art. nothing wrong with wanting to be popular. wouldn't you want to make a living with your art?

Attempting to define what a "true artist" should be is extremely arbitrary. The only beings who are not artists are those who steal other people's work.
DragonSnake9989 Featured By Owner Feb 6, 2018  Hobbyist Digital Artist
I’m just here to draw for usual time. :)
Cambion-Hunter Featured By Owner Feb 6, 2018
More than that, real DA members don't do ANYTHING for fame as fame does not mean much at the end of the day. ^^

using! thank you!

I agree. I only draw because I love doing it. Period. I post up the pictures on here, just to share with everyone what I've been up. I draw whatever I want. If I gain watchers or anything for drawing something, then great. But, I don't care about it.

Posting art has got me a few friends, but whenever I move on to another fandom, they sort of leave too.
But if you REALLY wanted to be popular, just move to LA and get a job at Disney
IceNotion Featured By Owner Oct 10, 2017
I feel the same way. I draw and write for myself, I don't give a fuck if anyone watches me or not.

Though I'm not gonna lie, I would like someone to critique my work regardless.
Human-Writer Featured By Owner Sep 28, 2017  Student Writer
Popularity means nothing. I have only 24 watchers and I'm happy. If I get more, great! If someone doesn't like my work, okay then! I like my work and that's all that matters.

most artists need money to support their lives, and you can't exactly get money when you're completely obscure

like fun's nice and all, but being an artist actually is a job once you've got to be independent, and it's difficult as fuck, especially in today's late-stage capitalism, to support an income with commissions unless you're able to get away with charging up the ass for them, or [dah dahdahdahdah dah daaaaaaaah] you've got enough fans, fame, and commissions coming in to support yourself.

it's also incredibly demoralising to pour your hard work, time, and effort into a piece, and then... nobody looks at it. it's depressing, it's despair-inducing, it's demoralising. it makes you feel like you're pissing into the wind.

I know this comment is old, but I agree with this. I feel the same. When you're trying to really earn your place out there, life is no wonderland free and full of fun and games. If it's all just for fun, then really you're mainly contributing to a simple hobby in my opinion. Maybe you'll get super lucky by doing this art just for fun, but that's really rare. To get out there in the world, you have to crack down and work up to the top. That's how I see it, anyways. Though, you probably should not work yourself too hard (sort of what I did at this point in time), or else you'll burn yourself out. You need to maintain a good balance overall, with mostly work in my opinion IF you want that high spot.

this is really old but i'm going to leave a comment for people thinking about using this stamp and reading the comments.

if people drew just for fame like?? there are easier ways to get popular haha. almost no one on DA is going to be drawing just to get popular.

"the plain fact is that on dA most people draw as a hobby" yeah because they're kids. kids that will (very likely) be moving onto an art career towards the end of high school and in college. and as someone finishing art college and entering the industry. connections are everything. a following is super important. we draw for fun. if we want to continue to draw for fun we NEED to get popular. or else we might be forced to give up art completely to get a different job so we can live and eat or w/e.

i'm sorry but this stamp is very short-sided. (also it's a little pretentious to definitively state who is a 'true' artist) yeah a lot of people enjoy getting comments and favs. but thats because they love art and they love sharing their art. like i said if they just wanted to be popular for the sake of being popular there are way easier ways. but thats just my thoughts on the matter. if anyone has an argument against this feel free to let me know.

It's like I say: Pageviews, Core, a fancy deviant page, having the "latest" art tools, popularity... All this doesn't make you a better or worse artists or more or less worthy of praise.

It's your skills, determination, dedication and how much you're willing to how to learn to draw that makes the difference. Also, drawing and writing is all about the journey, not the destination.… Helped and is still helping me a lot in this new journey.
