Royal Air Force Ranks by ChevronTango Royal Air Force Ranks by ChevronTango
Ranks of her majesty's Royal Air Force, sleeve insignia for officers and other ranks in no1 best uniform. Threw this together because the wikipedia ones were rubbish and then wikipedia threw some rubbish about not being a proper member... blah. Enjoy

EDIT: These are now all on wikipedia and free to use from there.

DesperateMe:  SAC (Technical) was introduced in 2005/6 to identify technical SACs on Sqns from non technical SACs.  Lance Corporal rank (for the RAF Regt only) was also introduced around that time.  Air crew ranks are not senior to NCO ranks, so the order would be AC; LAC; SAC (Technical & Non Technical) L/Cpl (RAF Regt Only; Cpl; Sgt Aircrew/Sgt; Chf Tech; FS Aircrew/FS; MACR/WO

What's that rank between JT & SAC, the three props encircled? Never seen that one before! & the ranks below WO are the wrong way round! LAC, SAC, Junior Tech, Cpl, Sgt (Sgt Aircrew) Chief Tech, Flt Sgt (Flt Sgt Aircrew) WO Aircrew, WO, then Fg Off, Plt Off, Flt Lt, Sqn Ldr, Wg Cdr, Group Captain Never met the Zob above that rank...Never wanted to either!

The 3 props in a circle is the technician varient of SAC. I can't remember if its just a varient or if its senior but I have seen people wearing them. The images weren't meant to be in order anyway. It was more grouping similar images together so they fit nicely onto a single image. You can check wikipedia for the full and proper listing of there order.

my apologies. You more than likely know alot more than me on the matter. I would love to hear your thoughts on some of my other images. My experience is 3 1/2 years as an RAF Cadet in the CCF. it does indeed exist as I have seen it in person when I was visiting RAF Lyneham and the wiki has yet to be ammended, as it would have been erroneous for a little over a year now. Wiki suggests that it was brought in in 2005 but I never trust that as a concrete source of information so you may well be able to find something more reliable elsewhere.

I have considered it, but not seriously. I would normally check Wikipedia for reference images but since I'm the contributor for Rank images, and no one else seems to have taken up the mantle I'm a bit stuck. Do you have some good reference images I can work from?

Of course, I'm looking for WWII which would be the Kings crown, not the Queens Crown, but this seems to be the best I can find.

None better than the one's you've made. I didn't think I'd get the chance to ask, or to say thank you, but do you mind if I use your images for my squad?

Posted a comment on the image as I found that before I found your messages. Thanks again for all the work you've put in.

"Thanks a ton, these look fantastic.

Any chance to get some for the WWII era? With the kings crown and GRVI Royal Cipher?
Link to the monogram: [link]

Alternatively would you be willing to email me your raw images and I could try reworking them to fit my specific needs?

Thanks again for the work you've put in, they look fantastic."

I've got no problems with that. There on Wikipedia so free for all to use. Might I ask which squad? ATC, CCF, actual Serving Squadron?
