Karma Train
She opened her eyes into the dream. She isn't surprised to see him there; after all he had become a fixture in her dreams lately.  The young, attractive actor had been turning up in a variety of costume and character, to her mind a sure sign of an impending mid-life crisis.  The school boy uniform confirms it.
"You have an interesting mind," he says when he notices her looking at him.
"Thank you," she says with a girlish smile. She can feel her self blushing.  It's silly.  This is just a dream, just like all the others, and what will happen will happen, and she will feel weird and guilty about it in the morning, "you should know, you are a part o fit."
"Not exactly.  No," he smiles, his too bright smile, "it's hard to explain.  Think of me as a sub contractor.  I'm here to remind you of the things you have to do this week."
"Like I could forget," her mind runs over the to-do list for the week, making note

It's a few days later, and we are all laying out under the stars in the graveyard that makes up Wayland's back yard.  Wayland and I have been joined for the evening by our significant others, Kate and Steve.  Kate and Steve are working out nice, they don't bitch about how much time Wayland and I spend together.  They don't get in between us, well figuratively; Steve is on his back in between us, hands behind his head looking up at the stars, occasionally kicking me gently as if to remind me he is still there.  Some nights the three of us will lay like this all night, just drinking and talking and smoking.  Some nights are more rowdy, after all that's why you date the Preachers Kid.  But tonight is a quiet night.
"I've been thinking," Wayland says from the other side of Steve.  I glance over Steve and Kate smiles at me, that dreamy half drunk smile she has, from her place in the crook of Wayland's arm.
"About what?"

From the time I met Wayland Smith we were inseparable.  I should start by saying his name isn't really Wayland, just like my name isn't Hal, his name is Christopher and mine is Mary.  I'm called Hal after Halgert, a woman from the Norse sagas, and Wayland is called Wayland after the famous smith.  I don't know if giving your kids weird ass nicknames is a thing that all ministers do, but our parents did, and both Wayland and I are PK.  That's preacher's kid.  From what I understand we are a special breed of crazy, at least that's what I hear.  I don't know, you can't really tell from inside.
Anyway I met Wayland in high school and we've known each other ever since.  It's got to be some kind of record for both of us.  It's one of those crazy things I mentioned, I've seen it time and time again, we just keep moving.  And with each move all our friendships fall behind us.  It's weird I never

My name is Tegue Timms and I live with my family on a farm about twenty miles outside of Bathory City.  It's a quiet life.  Or it was.  Last week was our birthday; my twin William and I turned twelve.  Last year on our birthday our Father died.  I'm surprised I can say that so calmly.  We knew it was coming, but that doesn't, or shouldn't, make it easier.  It's weird how it still doesn't seem real to me; I still think he'll be walking around the corner.  I don't know how William, my twin, or Ryes, our older brother, feel about Father's death.  We don't talk about it.  To talk about it would make it too real.
"You were always his favorite," William's voice comes out of the dark from the bed next to mine.  At twelve we still share a room.

Imogene sat quietly next to her father as the service started. It was Christmas Eve services, a time for family and so Imogene was not welcomed with the families of her friends; all are sitting below her perch in the upper balcony.††She and her father sat quietly in the place they always sat for Christmas Eve, just next to the organ between Imogene's father and the family of the other minister, who were all next to the choir.††Imogene wasn't a member of the choir, she hadn't even tried out for the choir for fear of the shadow of favoritism, the same reason she had never tried out for the bell choir or asked to attend the alter.††She could see her boyfriend Eddy moving down in the main area of the Church: he was serving as an extra usher for the night.††The church is full and overflowing.††

It's another day before I have Kevin out of bed for any length of time.  Healer Bright is amazed to see Kevin up and about so quickly, even if by up and about I mean is sitting up at a desk for an hour or so.
"You look at the world through eyes that have only seen Bathory," I tell him dismissively.
"I know," he nods, "I've never been far from here.  I was born at the hospital I work in."
"Really?" I ask, I don't really care, but it seems polite.
"Grew up about twenty miles from here, never traveled much."
"Why?" I can't imagine not traveling.
"Just haven't," he replies turning back to Kevin.  He's poking at Kevin's wound.
"We aren't raised to leave here," Kevin says with an odd smile.  I want to ask why, but I know he will either tell me or he won't.  You can't prompt him on the past, "Take my word for it, we aren't."
"If you say so," I say turning to Healer Bright, "Do you know where all of us live?"

toad O.F. contest entry
The people who lived here before liked toads, they had a story about how we helped create the world.  We were honored for our part in the cycle of life, we were welcomed for our destruction of pests, and we were thought to live forever.  Those were good days.
Now these new people, these abnormally pasty people who scorch in the sun and clothe themselves as if it is the middle of winter even in the hot summer months, they hate toads.  They don't see us as useful or important, they would rather have pests then us in a garden.  They kick us if we are not fast enough hurrying away from them.  They say we are the messengers of the devil.   I doubt I will ever understand humans.
When it started, I don't know.  One day I hopped toward what they call a 'Goodwife' who had been particularly terrible to me, hitting me with brooms and throwing rocks, I was so angry I let caution go by and just

When the Healer is gone I sit on the bed next to Kevin, "How you feeling?" I ask knowing he was just asked this.  Just asking so I have something to say.
"You didn't have to be rude to him," Kevin shifts and rests his head against me.
"I wasn't being rude.  I just needed him to know he was here to take care of you, not to study me."
"Just because he," Kevin looks at me and gives me a small smile, "I'm not going to convince you," he sighs and then, "How do you feel?"
"You are the one that is hurt."
"And I know how it feels when you are hurt.  It hurts me, so how are you feeling?"
"It hurt.  When he stabbed you, it hurt me.  I was not prepared for that."
"I should have told you."
"I wouldn't have believed you anyway."
"I know.  You're pig headed.  If you got my computer I could be working now," Kevin says, trying to sound strong and healthy.

Down the stairs
I don't know why everyone thinks Magic upsets me.  It doesn't.  I may not use it, but I am not anti magic, not by a long shot.  It is a large part of my background, everyone my family are magic users, and I can't count the number of magical beings in my life, both clients and personal. My girlfriend is a troll.  Mind you she held off telling me for months, because she thought it would upset me.  I don't hate magic; I just don't trust it.  Magic didn't stop my parents from dieing, leaving me to raise my brother and sister.  Magic didn't keep William from falling down the stairs; in fact Magic probably caused the fall.  All I know is that he had called me and when I got his building I found him seizing at the bottom of the stairs.
I've always found it amazingly hard to see William broken and twitching on the ground.  I should be able to fix this, Mom and Dad always trusted me to take care of him and

Jamie ran his fingers through his dark hair and sighed.  He was on Ryes watch duty; Tegue, Jamie's wife and Ryes' younger sister, always seemed to think that Ryes needed to be watched while William was in the hospital.  Jamie had learned, over the years that he had known the Timms family, that Ryes didn't need watching until well after William was on his feet again; Ryes was the master of delayed reaction.  Anyway, Ryes wouldn't want to lean on Jamie when he finally decided to fall apart, he usually would get rip roaring drunk and spend the night on Eddy's couch.
"You don't have to watch over my shoulder," Ryes says without looking up from the type he was setting.
"I'm just interested in what you are doing."
"No.  You aren't, you've never been interested in what I do."
"That is because I don't understand it properly," Jamie said quickly.
"If you wanted to know how to do it properly, you would have asked, you are just listing in at my

The Dancer - wip
Ryes looks like Father when he dances.  I should say that Father died when I was eleven, Mother when I was twelve, so the memory of my parents is that of a child, or of the photos of them.  The living memories of them are fading; sometimes that makes me very sad.  Ryes was eighteen when our parents died, he never seemed to miss a beat, he took care of us and still got to school most of the time.  Looking at it now, it must have been so hard on him, suddenly having to be father, mother, student and farmer.  It probably wouldn't have been so bad if he was just stuck with me but my twin, William, was going through a bad time with his seizures, so it must have been hard.  But as I said, I think he did well.
We are a family that has always had access to Magic.  Not just spells and what not, but real Gifts.  William can see the future, like our mother, and I can speak to animals, like Father.  Not like

Her Heart is a map- wip
Her heart is a map
Saphy thinks I took the news of her being a Troll well.  I guess I did, for me, in the past I would have just blocked out what she was saying; what I was seeing at her apartment.  But I have seen things over the years; I've seen Gawain heal people who should have died, I've seen my Sister know things she should never know, things only my cat would know, and I've seen my Brother know what is about to happen to people.  I've learned enough not to completely disbelieve; but I'm not sure I want to believe either.
Saphy's bedroom is a soft mossy clearing in a small woods, the really creepy thing about her apartment is that I can still see the walls of the apartment like a shadow through the trees.  Her bed is a feather bed with silk sheets and a thick soft down comforter.  It's cool enough in her bedroom that we can curl up under the covers and not be too hot, but maybe that's because the winter has sunk into m

My concept on reviews:
First off let me say I don't mind "I was here" reviews.  You know what I mean; 'I just read this, but can't think of anything to say yet' at least I know that people are reading.
The review is about the piece not the author (and not the reviewer either).  If you are here to flame me because of something you don't agree with me on and not give constructive criticism, send me a note; it will save time and aggravation.     I post here so I can get help with my work and become a better artist, if you want to help me with that quest I will be in your debt; if you are here to pester me or insult me you are a road block and I will just go around you.
If you've read any of my stories you have probably picked up that I don't have the best spelling and grammar; I am not offering this as an excuse but as an explanation, I have a learning disability.  I try my hardest but if a word is spelled correctly (even if it
