Life on Neptune by Charlene-Art Life on Neptune by Charlene-Art
PLEASE DOWNLOAD FOR FULLVIEW! For some reason Deviantart likes to leach the colour of my uploads :(

I have killed my eyes on this! So, this is my entry for the Planetary Mythology contest: aeirmid.deviantart.com/journal… Instead of showing Neptune or Poseidon himself, I've chosen to portray some of the myths he was involved in, namely the creation of horses and mythological horse creatures.

Most of my knowledge about Poseidon I have gleaned from Percy Jackson and the Olympians ;)

Poseidon was said to have created horses from the foam of the sea. This part was also inspired by the animated movie "The Last Unicorn", where the unicorns are dissolving and forming in the waves.

Poseidon's union with Demeter also created the fastest horse in the universe, Arion. Demeter turned into a mare to get away from him but unfortunately he caught up with her and conceived Arion. Pegasus had been conceived when Poseidon raped Medusa in Athena's temple. He was "born" when Perseus decapitated Medusa and he sprang from her neck.

Fun times Greek Myths ;)

Constructive criticism wanted! Especially with the composition and the planets in the background.

I like this very much.  The only thing that seems out of place are the footprints through the mid-section of the image - they don't seem to be going anywhere or have any indication of who/what made them.  The larger planet seems to be riding ON the water instead of just beyond the horizon.  You might want to erase/mask out the bottom of the planet to make it better appear to be a true planet and not just some sort of orb floating on the sea.  The addition of the piece of statuary is terrific!

Ah yes, those footprints were part of the original beach photo. Maybe I should have edited them out :P

The main reason the bottom of the planet is there on the ocean is as a reflection. I was reading this book on perspective and apparently when symmetrical things are reflected they are a continuation of their shape rather than directly 180 flip - but I could have misinterpreted that or I'm not reading it properly. I'll look up some stuff about reflections and perspective.
