Ko-Fi Recurring Donations

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 30, 2018, 6:58 PM
My Shop | Tumblr | RedBubble | My AO3 | Fine Art America | Support My Art

I have good news!

Ko-Fi came out with Ko-Fi gold, which is a $6/month subscription.  I get lots of options, like setting it up so folks can make a monthly recurring donation.  Lots of pictures are posted there as well.

What's the big deal?

I can use this instead of Patreon without running the risk of losing my disability payments/SSDI.  It's more flexible, cleaner, and user-friendly.  It only allows SFW (safe for work) images to be posted, but I don't have to worry about that considering my work is mostly quilting and jewelry with a random splash of drawings and paintings.

There's also the option of using it as a payment option for purchasing my quilts.  Details are set up on my Ko-Fi page.  The link?  At the top of my journal it's Support My Art.  I may use it as an alternative to Etsy, but I'll figure that out later.  For now it's what I'm using instead of Patreon.

If you want to commission me we can use Ko-Fi, but I'd rather send a PayPal invoice because there's a little more safety there.  A friend of mine may soon help me figure out how to set up a contract for commissions to protect me further.

Here's what I have posted on my Ko-Fi page.  Feel free to chime in with options.

"I would love to make more quilts but I need money to do that. Being disabled makes that rather difficult because I'm on a fixed income, my husband is the only one who can work, and between us the bills are paid off. It's nice being able to pay the bills, but not so nice that I can't finish quilts.

Please help support me. I sell my quilts online and it helps, but they don't sell often enough. Finishing my quilts will help add inventory and provides potential buyers more options to choose from.

$5/month and you'll receive a postcard!
$10/month and you'll receive a postcard AND will be able to choose what mini thing you like: coaster, mug rug, or a single place mat.
$15/month and you'll receive a postcard and after three months choose to receive a set of coasters or three mug rugs or a four piece place mat set (set sells at $40 starting price).
$25/month and you'll receive a postcard and after three months choose between any of the above or receive a mini quilt (typically 30 x 30 inches, starting price is $100)
$75/month and you'll receive a postcard and after three months choose between any of the above or receive a lap quilt (typically 50 x 50 inches, starting price is $250)

For clarification, you'll be choosing items I have already made unless you wish to commission me.

To donate hire than what the $5 listed you just need to click the up button. You can make it a one-time donation or monthly. If you wish to receive something from me as stated above you must make it monthly and leave a message for me (you can choose to make it private or public) telling me what you'd like. Public donations are easier to keep track of in regards to who is donating how much, but if you want to keep it private state your name and email address in the message so I can set up a reference sheet.

If you want to commission me and would rather pay me via Ko-Fi than PayPal let me know BEFORE you send any money. We'll need to work out details and figure out the price of what you want. It'll be 50% up-front so I can purchase supplies, and the other 50% when it's finished. For more details contact me.

If you'd like to purchase something I've already made and don't want to go through Etsy please contact me.

Thank you!"

Like standard use of Ko-Fi you can choose how many "coffees" you send.  I have the minimum payment set up at $5.  Just click the up button to enter how many you want to send, choose monthly or single donation, and include a message.  I think you can contact me privately there, but I haven't figured that out quite yet.  As for the postcard, I love sending them.  It'll be a random pick unless you want something within a specific theme.  There's be a big thank you and little message that could be a book suggestion, poem, quote, playlist, whatever.

As always I do ship worldwide.  That includes sending postcards.  Keep in mind it can take several weeks or months for things to arrive.  When sending anything other than a postcard I'll provide you with a tracking number.  Once it leaves the USA I can't track it, but some countries can.  Give them the tracking number, the company that's shipping it (in my case it's USPS) and they can see about tracking it.

If you want to support me but can't afford to purchase anything right now, or don't see something you want, become a "patron" and pick an item later.

There are no transaction fees, ads, or anything like that.  Just a flat $6/month.  The money is sent to my PayPal account and they charge a small fee, but it's nothing like what Etsy is about to do.  I made a big journal entry regarding that.  No new items will be listed on Etsy unless a potential buyer isn't comfortable purchasing anywhere else.  The price will be higher due to Etsy's transaction and shipping fees (they take a 5% cut from the transaction and another 5% from shipping, which is ridiculous).

Feel free to share this information and become a supporter of my work, even if it's as little as $5/month.

I'm working on moving everything in my Etsy shop to  I can sync up the shops, but when the listings on Etsy expire I won't be relisting them.  The shop won't be closed, but instead I'll have a link to direct potential buyers to Artyah.
It's very annoying when some random dude decides to comment on photographs of me regarding my hair.  Honestly, wtf is your problem?  If you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all.  You don't have to understand women or why we do "weird" stuff to our hair.  It's not your hair.  If you don't like what you see then don't look.  Don't leave rude comments telling me my hair style is ugly.  It's not a productive thing to say.  New dude decided to do that today.  I've stopped counting how many men feel the need to police how I style or cut my hair.  Maybe I should take a new selfie and post it up here so folks can see what I've recently done.  Spoiler: it's a couple millimeters shy of bald. Because I can. Muahaha!
I believe I may have found a new home for my store!!!  A couple artist suggest I check out  It's created and run by people who used to sell on Ebay and Etsy and got tired of the fees, poor customer service, and various other factors present on both sites.  I've checked it out and looks promising.  I've sent an email to customer service with a few questions not covered in their FAQ, Policies, etc.  If you decide to check out the site look over all the information because this is VITALLY important.
I need to come up with a new name for my shop seeing as I may be making the move to another site.  Nay-Nay Macrame no longer works because it doesn't reflect my current direction.  I make so many different things (paintings, jewelry, quilts, home decor, etc) and need a name that reflects this.  I've come up with a few thus far, but nothing is really feeling right.

Thanks a million for answering the questions! :thanks:

Say, do you mind if I feature a few of your works at the bottom of the article?
And if necessary, do you mind if I do a bit of editing/trimming of your answers?

Once again, thanks for taking the time! We really appreciate it!

Yes and yes.  Add as many works as you like, even throw in the tutorial I have listed for crazy quilting if you like.  Sorry I got a bit carried away on the answers.  Talking shop is just...well, you know how it is.
