The last golden sword by Chanteur-de-Vent The last golden sword by Chanteur-de-Vent
He always admired their courage, their will to battle till the bitter death, even when one knew there were no chances left. They would never give up. But he never thought he would be the one to face the last of them. To decide whether the last golden sword would live or die...

I bet he won't kill her. He might be dark, but he's noble at heart.

Me stuck in postwork, trying to figure out how to make embers using Ron's War Essentials. Together with DOF. It's a pain, since some of them needs to be blurred manually and some left sharp. But not where everything else is blurred. But with everything blurred it doesn't look right. But... Anyway, I'm calling this one done. Feedback very welcome, since I'm quite unsure if what I tried to achieve (depth, damn it) worked here.

DAZStudio and Iray. Heavy postwork in Picasa and Photoshop.

Thank you. One of my best pieces so far, also made it in the DAZ galleries top (which never happened to me before). But man it took some time to get those embers right and blurred properly.... :)

Gorgeous scene! Beautiful lighting &  I love the DOF.
I really need a new computer to render multiple figures.  This is just lovely.

Thank you. Took me a very long time to get the embers properly blurred to the DOF, but I consider this work one of my best so far. Definitely worth the hussle.

Why? What are your specs? (CPU renderer here, with 24 GB of RAM)

I have a gaming laptop, so, it's pretty powerful for a laptop but gives me fits when I start getting beyond one or two figures.  Which is why I often don't use background sets, as much as I like them (and own many).  I have an i7 4700MQ 2.4 GHz with 12 GB RAM and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770M.  It's not a bad machine, but I need to build myself a new desktop when I have the cash.

And you are welcome for the comment, it really is a wonderful image!

Actually it sounds very decent. And better than what I have (except for the amount of RAM). So does it starts to act weird in the viewport or when you start to render?

When I start to Render.  I have 16 gigs of Ram, but I'm on a laptop.  A gaming laptop but still. Really need to build a better render rig.

Than that's probably your cpu or graphics problem, RAM is needed for viewport and size of the scene. Try to call a task manager of some sort to see how much RAM you're using during render.

Thank you. The image started with the guy. It was made as a submission to Shiba's monthly contest, and Silver's Corbin was the "used item". Then the scene kinda grew around him. :)

This is so astounding! Your postwork was wonderful--all that extra effort really paid off! You've inspired me to try something probably way beyond my skill set, lol, an after-the-battle-scene...I will come back to this as inspiration repeatedly!

Thank you so much, this is the greatest praise an artist can get - knowing your work inspired to create. If you're going to create your own something because of this and come out of your comfort zone the postwork definitely payed off. :D

Thank you. Postwork here was a mess, matching the embers to the proper amount of the blur to not break the DOF was a hell. But I love how it came out.

Thank you. The lighting is the build in in Iray Sun-Sky mode, I think on default setting of 18:00. I might have rotated the dome to fit the scene.

Inspirational scene; the composition is -beyond- perfect, everything from the color scheme, to the atmosphere, to the expressions, the materials... This is legendary and what I feel is missing from my renders. Great work!!!!!

It was inspired by those epic battle images on DA, where one can find a "dying" race putting up the last battle. Like a lost elven folk or the old gods giving place to the new world. I always found it inspiring, to see how time can erase a once powerful race, giving the world to the lesser ones.

But creating this was such a postwork mess. It was the first time I tried to create embers in postwork, and with all the DOF and colors it was just trial and error, with like 1000 PS layers. I'm just glad I didn't give up halfway.

Thank you very much for this comment, it means a lot to me.

Thank you. I let myself be inspired by all those "epic battles of the golden age" images. You know, with golden elves, chosen people and ripped red flags all over the battlefield. I just wish the postwork on DOF layers wasn't that hard...

You might try just rendering them as a straight foreground layer, applying your postwork, and then using the Gaussian blur or a motion blur in photoshop after you've postworked.

Well, the DOF is rendered, and that's really hard to reproduce using Gaussian blur, since the DOF kinda goes over the ground, slowly becoming less and less blurred. So you need to work in layers, a lot of renders.

Thank you. It was a bit hard to get all the postwork right in this one, with all the DOF that needed to be matched. But I was pleasantly surprised with the first place, so I guess it was worth the effort. :)

The more I see this, the more I love the stop-motion effect. The DOF, embers falling, the warrior setting up to swing and the muted lightning all combine to support that effect. This is so well done. Congratulations on winning first place!

Thank you. This was also what I was going for -  a frozen moment of tension, just before the storm, when a lightning flashing is just a small detail compared to the what's going on between the two main character.

Congratulations on winning the ShibaShake contest with this piece, it's certainly well deserved! I love the sense of time standing still in the middle of battle and leaving the outcome for us to decide. The lighting and color are excellent, too, and the post matches the DOF beautifully. Love it! :)

Thank you, I was really surprised when I saw it. Wasn't expecting to get the 1st place.

Yes, the time standing still was what I was going for. That one moment when the tension is in the air and the battle holds its breath for a second. With all the eyes on the two main characters.

Glad to hear the DOF matches with the postwork, it was a pain to get them aligned. Blurring in layers and selective parts was really hard here.
