UPDATE (19 january) : today after a long list of notifications (155 users who added me in their watch list) I deactivated my "gallery only for watchers" and this deactivation has stopped the attraction of fake profils or profile of porn amateur. So, don't use these galleries if you want to use Deviantart with quiet.

:deviantart:

I created my first profile in 2006, and this site was a great revelation because it allowed me to find digital art and, more precisely, photomontage. This discovery quickly turned into a passion.

Deviantart was a pure jewel; all the members, whatever the artistic branch's level, helping each other. We all had one goal, share our passion for the creative field. Some members provided material so that others like me could realize their projects. There were already people who created profiles just out of curiosity. Despite everything, there were exchanges, opinions, and everyone was happy.

Then the web evolved, companies created other sites, and people's behavior has changed. Seeing that the Deviantart teams were slowly starting to let go, I left. I tried to come back several times, and each time it was the same thing. The quality of the projects put on the site was far from what was proposed at the beginning. People no longer bothered to write a review or a comment. The only thing we could see was the increasing number of clicks on the link "Add to Favorite."

Groups specializing in resources or those dedicated to specific creations have begun to lose interest among existing members. Deviantart was slowly losing notoriety among those who had discovered it and participated in its development.

Even some members tried to create sites like Deviantart, and I am talking about Shadowness and OnlyUnique. These projects were outstanding, but they were victims of their success. So strong that they ended up closing down because it was almost impossible for them to keep up with the craze. Back to Deviantart, and the situation was alarming. Fall of the audience for profiles that had existed for a long time—the impression of creating to be and remaining in the ranking. But seriously, what is the point of creating if you don't feel the need or if the inspiration is not there.

And then, one fine day, the teams decided to restore the site to its former glory by redesigning it. Of course, with ArtStation or Behance competing (although these sites are different), it is not easy to stay in the race. Can we believe they have finally become aware of their laxity? I am still wondering.

Eclipse was born. I don't judge the design because it is beautiful, but the substance and the usefulness of this change. The existing problems are still there (and even worse), and others have made their appearance. The navigation, the categories, the way the work is put forward are to be reviewed. But deep down, I tell myself that maybe this version is worthwhile. I give Eclipse a chance. Lovely little things are making their appearance: direct chat or the ability to block a user. Personally, this button is useful to me. But shouldn't we take the problem at the root? Why is it that users are the ones who have to block when nothing is done beforehand? I've been on Eclipse for a year now, not needing any stock; the site works pretty well compared to what I do. But the concern comes from all those profiles created by people who have an attraction for everything pornographic without counting the people who only build galleries full of favorites. What's the point of this kind of use?

Why not do like on Art Limited, where you can create a specific profile (a visitor or an artist).

I used today the new function of Deviantart concerning galleries. I made the test to place all my creations in galleries visible only by people who follow me. Story to see if it changes something or not. Well, if you want to have interaction, this is the best way!

It was not my surprise to see that no less than 20 people followed me after having activated this option! And not by active members. Most of them were empty profiles, created within minutes, and others that had more existence but didn't include any creations or even favorites. The avatar was the one used by default; the nicknames are chosen randomly etc...

Can you tell me how possible it to be followed by so many fake profiles, especially when you know you are not among the best creative.

Only one album is visible, and despite this, I receive notifications of people following me all the time. What I do? I now spend my time clicking on the "Block user" button.

I'm discouraged about how this site is going. I don't think I will be staying here for long. I could just let it go and not worry about those kinds of details. But seriously, where are we going? In the end, we should not attack these fake profiles or these people who are on Deviantart only to put content in their faves. They use the site as they see fit since the team behind all this mess does not take comments into account to improve it! When I know that we have the premium option, which does not serve us at all since nothing changes either. It's not as if it brought other options that would allow you to be more peaceful. In short, I am maturing the idea of leaving Deviantart and joining the hundreds of artists that I have known on other platforms. Places that are much better managed and where user demands are taken seriously for the sole purpose of improving comfort and usability rather than lining their pockets.

Sorry for this long speech and for my english level (it's not my native language).

Hello everyone, hope this end of the week is good for you !

I'm really sad and I'm here to clarify something because I'm feel guilty with the disappearance of all stocks from @Jean52

He has deactivated his account in a first time, to place all stocks deviations in storage after the reactivation of his account.

I sent him a note because I know he takes time to search and provide stock for us. This note was just to explain it will be necessary to be careful with images from Pixabay, Unsplash, etc. His stocks was amazing and very helpful (i'm among people who have used his stocks) but it's forbidden to use or share images from these websites without a minimum to rework on them. Some artists from DA have had some problems regarding the use of Pixabay images etc (and not from jean52 directly, I precise ^^)

Remove background is not consider like a big changes inside the terms and conditions of use. Personally, I sent an email to Unsplash because I was really interested to provide stock to Deviantart users.

This is the mail I sent to Unsplash support, because I prefer this website than Pixabay :

Hello,

I have some doubts about the use of images and really expect an answer :)

It mentions all images are free to use for commercial and personal issues, but I have a question about a specific use with them.

Can we use images and create stock for a creative purpose (digital compositing, reference for digital painting) and propose them for download on a site such as Deviantart.com for free.

Of course, all information about the photographer of the original photo and the source of the image will be mentioned.

Thanks in advance for your time

Christel Michiels

Hello there,

Thanks ever so much for getting in touch to double check this, it's much appreciated.

As of March 18th, 2019, our Terms of Service restrict the sale of all Unsplash photos. This includes selling as prints or printed on products. It also prevents the redistribution of the images.

Under section 8G, Prohibited Conduct, by using the service you agree not to:

Sell copies of Photos without first significantly or meaningfully updating, modifying, or otherwise incorporating new creative elements into the Photos beyond simple retouches, resizing, or other minimal changes so long as they are not done by automated means (i.e., selling unaltered, slightly altered, or altered by automatic script copies of the Photos), including selling them as prints or printed on physical goods.

Same goes for offering them for free.

If you are going to sell a photo from Unsplash, you need to first meaningfully update, modify, or otherwise incorporate new creative elements into the Photo. Simple retouches, resizing, or other minimal changes won’t cut it.

Ask yourself whether the photographer of the original photo would easily identify their work in your image.

Have you transformed it enough to “make it your own” creative work, albeit being built on an Unsplash photo?

Like any good creative work, these updates and modifications can’t have been done by automated means. This has to reflect your creative process, not a script that applies an automated treatment to the Photo.

You can view examples of images that have been significantly modified here:

Best wishes,

I know if very difficult for everybody to pay a subscription. It is easier to acquire free stocks, but before to use images from free stock website, please read carefully the rules. If you have some doubts, send an email to the support team, they are there to help you.

Is not an obligation to pay a subscription to acquire stocks images, these website have a free section. The only thing to do is to create a free "client" profile.

Depositphotos : https://depositphotos.com/free-images.html

Dreamstine : https://dreamstime.com/free-photos

Adobe Stock : https://stock.adobe.com/free

And don't have a blind trust with DA stockers !

Also don't forget, free stock means same stock on all free platform with different paternities.

You will have thus understood it, you can use the free stocks coming from sites like Pixabay, Unsplash,... for personal and/or commercial purposes as soon as these last ones are modified so as not to differentiate any more the original.

For example, if you want to create a custom background and make it available to DA, you must mix the images in order to make something unique. In any case, specify in the information your precise sources and not just the name of the site.

PS: it is not adviced to use Pixabay images, they not respect their-self the rules of copyright and use images from Google and others sources without authorization.

If you want to use stocks from DA users or free stocks site, read the post here and others posts inside :
