Cernunnos Rising

This is Cernunnos, the Celtic "Horned God" of nature and fertility. He is born at the winter solstice, marries the goddess at Beltane, and dies at the summer solstice to be reborn next winter.

Winter tree reference thanks to ~Hokota

I've always been fond of the look of these early winter evenings and all the mythologies that center around the winter solstice. Hope you enjoy as well, and happy winter!

Beautifully done, though I have trouble picturing Cernunnos as too young for his first beard.

Exquisite! You are a truly gifted artist. The figure's pose, the entire composition, lighting, and shading are exceptional.

oh that looks awesome, I was doing some research on Celtic gods. and I found depending on what god/goddess you look at there can be very little information ^^; but this is really amazing! :la:

Very nice!  I like that you've used stag-type horns for him.  I've seen him depicted with goat horns and that just seems wrong to me.  And in my religion he is said to die on Halloween night (Samhian), not summer solstice, but perhaps it's different for different beliefs.

Thank you - yes the stag horns seem to be closest to the original depictions of him from two thousand years ago.
