Guppy on Board The fisherman stopped his boat in the water once he felt like he found a good spot to begin. Grabbing his fishing rod and placing a bit of bait in the hook as a slight wind blew.
He looked around, and after a quick survey he reeled back and casted out his line. This was a new fishing spot he’d been meaning to try. Half for hearing not many were ever out here for some strange reason, and half for the sake of trying it.
A bit of time went by as he watched the red and white bobber sit in the water, no movement from it beyond the waves of the water. He enjoyed this part of the hobby. The nice silence, to just listen to the water and be with his thoughts.
Maybe a few moments later he felt something. He snapped to attention and waited intently.
He could feel something was poking around at the bait. He just needed to wait until…
The line was given a good tug and in reply the fisherman reeled it in! It certainly felt like a big one. Though something strangely easy about pulling this one it too, as if it was willingly being lead. But he didn’t have time to think about that as he reeled the line, thinking about what kind of fish this one could be-
Is that… is that hair?
A head of wet brown hair popped up from under the water. It covered half of a woman’s face who was looking up at him. Next to her was her finger, gently hooked into the hook of his fishing rod. The fisherman was befuddled as she spoke.
“Hi there, fisherman!” She said and she popped more of her popped out from the water.
Besides revealing the view of her chest the fisherman could now see her other arm, or at least the half that’s there. Around the elbow area scar tissue covered the end of her upper arm. It was shook in a waving motion to him.
She let go of the hook as she changed from a kind greeting to something a bit more ‘woe is me’ of sorts.
“The water is ever so cold today.” She explained, bringing and placing her hand to the side of her face to really sell it. “Oh would you be a pure soul and allow me to accompany you in for boat? For just a little while?”
The fisherman was still confused. Trying to think of why someone would be swimming all the way out here. And to… well do whatever that was. Her top also looked a bit strange, very… natural to say the least. It was a head scratcher, definitely.
But another definite was he didn’t think he could just leave someone out here in the water, especially with that arm. Plus if he kept fishing with her around he might hook her.
“Um, well.. I supposed if you want to, miss.” He replied. “Just one moment and I’ll help you up.”
Just as he began to set is rod to the side, the woman ducked back under the water. He turned to look over, only to see water. Suddenly from the other side of the boat she jumped out and landed square on his lap.
“Ooohh you’re such a gentleman!” She exclaimed.
The boat predictably rocked around with the sudden addition of weigh being dropped onto it like that. But the fisherman kept control and got it steady again. Admittedly, he’s tipped over in this thing enough times to know how to keep it from tipping.
He let out a sigh of relief as the boat steadied, now directing his attention to the new passenger.
Looking down, his eyebrows shot up almost fast enough to knock off his hat. Luckily not, he liked his hat.
The rest of her, what was hidden under the water was a big surprise. In both ways really.
Her midsection jutted out in a round ovalish shape. She sat in his lap and her belly sat in hers.
Speaking of her lap, or specifically her legs. Or perhaps more specifically her lack of them. Around the hip area and down was coated with fish scales and, well the entire tail of a fish. The color of it sort of reminded him of a moorish idol, but longer.
The confusion he was feeling now compared to first seeing her was definitely greater. As he tried to grasp the moment at hand, the now revealed mermaid threw her arm around his neck to stabilize herself.
The fisherman redirected I his gaze from her belly and tail back up to her face. The mermaid was looking around the watery area.
“The view is nicer from up here.” She commented.
She turned her head back around to look at him. A little smile on her face.
“Something the matter?” She inquired.
The fisherman looked her up and down again. From wet honestly nice hair, to seemingly pregnant belly, and finally the fish tail.
“It’s just, uhm, this is a rather big surprise.” He answered.
“Oh it’s big alright!” She joked as she patted her belly with her scarred arm.
He still stared for a bit, almost done grasping what exactly was sitting in his lap. The mermaid tilted her head a bit.
“What, you’ve never seen a soon to be mother before?” She asked.
“Well certainly not of your sort, miss.” He answered honestly.
She lifted her tail up a bit from where it was hanging off the boat, to get a look of it. She let it back down as she realized the reasons of his confusion.
“Well anyway, don’t mind me and all this.” The mermaid said. “You can get back to your fishing, I’ll just be here.”
“In my lap?”
“It’s a comfy spot.”
The fisherman sighed, there went his alone time. Though, while he did prefer the former, he didn’t mind company. Either way she seemed nice at the least.
He grabbed his rod ready to get back to catching fish. He was going to need some new bait though. It’d be tricky to get since it was in front of him around his feet.
“Would you mind gra…” he began only to trail off, remembering the state of her other arm.
“Never mind uhm, just give me a moment.” He said.
The fisherman gently put his right arm around the mermaid, not wanting to drop her or anything. Then he carefully bent forward managing to grab his bait.
“There we go.” He said as he set it somewhere more convenient.
Following that he got to add bait to the hook and cast it out, getting back to fishing.
With that it all fell back to the silence the fisherman’s day was having before. Except now there was an extra passenger on the boat, or would it be an extra few due to the contents of that tummy?
They both watched the bobber as it drifted in the water. Eventually the line was given that tug and the fisherman tugged back reeling it in. The fight wasn’t much as quickly the fish was plucked out from the water and left to dangle on the line.
Carefully the fisherman grabbed the line to steady it out so he could admire the catch. It was a little thing with a nice color.
That was all he could get before it was swiftly eaten by the woman sitting in his lap. The little fish was plucked off the hook and chewed up within a few seconds.
The fisherman couldn’t help but look at her perplexed. Having eaten the first straight off the hook with not a bit of… anything really. The mermaid swallowed it with a look at satisfaction. Upon noticing the fisherman’s look she then realized what she did.
“Oh you must’ve wanted that, sorry.” She said.
“Oh, no no. You’re fine.” He responded.
To be truthful, he was the catch and release sort of fisher. Either way ironically he didn’t really enjoy the taste of fish at all He just enjoyed the process most.
Besides, looking at the future mother with a missing forearm, he could tell who was in more need.
“I think you deserve it a bit more.” The fisherman said.
“My my, you really are a gentleman aren’t you.” The mermaid teased.
He could feel his face get hot as he adjusted his glasses and began to prepare to cast out again.
The process then repeated. He would cast the line, the two of them would wait, after a bit he’d finally get something, and she’d get a snack.
It was a nice time really. The fisherman got to fish and the mermaid got free food. Neither could complain.
“So you really didn’t hear about how there’s a few mermaids in these waters?” She asked as they waited for something to bite.
“Well I did, but waved it off.” He answered. “Certainly lead to a surprise here.”
“Good or bad?”
“Good I’d say, you’re definitely interesting.”
“Don’t make me blush now, fisherman.”
A bit more teasing lead to a bit more warmth in the face. Also lead to him almost missing a catch.
The day went on and more fish were caught and promptly eaten. It was a rather beautiful day really.
“You sure you don’t want in on any of these?” The mermaid asked.
“I’m alright.” The fisherman replied.
“Sure you’re sure?”
“Well, do wish I got a better look at that first catch before you ate it.”
“Ooohh and here I thought I was your first catch.” She moaned as she leaned into him.
The act of dipping his face into the waters to cool down and hide his face was tempting. But doing that might tip the boat. The mermaid fought a fit of laughter as she poked at his chest with her scarred arm.
“I’m just teasing you now don’t worry!” She smiled. “How could I be like that to someone catching me some free food.”
She stopped patting as his chest and patted her baby bump.
“I’m sure whoever’s in here is definitely grateful, as am I of course.”
“W-well they’re part of the reason I’m doing it so I certainly hope so.”
“You can feel them up if you want, definitely earned that, and a little break too.”
With a smidge of hesitation the fisherman accepted. Setting his rod to the side and pulling off a glove to properly get a feel of it.
Gently he placed a hand on the mermaids round belly. As the fisherman’s hand rubbed along her tan skin, the mermaid leaned into him again.
Her skin felt soft. When she first hopped on her middle, and entirety of her, was soaked but after a while of sitting in the boat it had dried. Save for a few drops of water from reeled in fish having pelted her belly as they dangled from the line.
The moment went on for a while. The mermaid relaxed and content as the fisher felt her heavy stomach. No kicks just yet. Actually they’d likely be called something else, but what was the question.
The fisherman did wonder what exactly was going on inside her stomach. Was it a more human like pregnancy? Or was it something more fish-like with a bunch of tiny round eggs? Or even some weird in between.
He got a bit lost in that thought until the mermaid snapped him out of it.
“It’s been quite a while, you may want to get going.” She said, looking up to the sky. “Besides as nice as this has been I think I might end up falling asleep. The full stomach isn’t helping.”
The fisherman looked up himself and noticed the sun had definitely moved a ways. Even though he didn’t have a watch he could tell too it had been quite a bit.
“Seems you’re right.” The fisher remarked.
“It’s been a lovely time I must say.” The mermaid stated. “My thanks to you.”
The fisherman began to turn his head to face her and give reply. But before that was quickly met with a kiss planted on his cheek. And before he could process what hit him the mermaid hopped back off the boat leading it to rock about. He need to quickly juggle processing the peck on the cheek and steadying the boat again.
After her splash she popped back out to say farewell.
“Hope to see you around again!” She exclaimed as she dove under the water.
Actually she dove under then popped back up a few seconds later.
“Actually I hope I CATCH you later!” She said, doing a little finger huh motion with her hand paired with a few little ‘eh’s as little ‘you get it?’s
And with that she actually left diving under the waters. Leaving the fisherman alone with his hand on his cheek.
Maybe this would be a spot he’d revisit sometime.
