Mekhane, the Broken God
10.4K Views|4 Today
Mekhane, the god of machines and knowledge, with his devoted followers. He created humanity in collaboration with Yaldabaoth, the god of flesh and instinct. Yaldabaoth became enraged at the advancement of human technology, and wanted to make us mindless animals once more. After a long battle, Mekhane shattered himself in order to build a cage to contain her. Now, his body is scattered across dimensions, and the cage grows weaker by the day. The Church of the Broken God must reassemble him before the next War of the Flesh, or Yaldabaoth and her Sarkists will wreck destruction upon the world.

First attempt at some kind of concept art.
Holy 343 this took ages and was one of the hardest things I'd painted so far. :o (Eek) What with the skewed angle, the weird perspective, and the light bouncing off everywhere. The result isn't as disastrous as I expected though. The symbols on his chest means 'destroy life' in Ancient Sumerian because I like doing a bit of research.
...the floating stuff in the foreground are not flower petals, I swear.

Mekhane belongs to the awesome SCP Foundation.

I wonder...when he returns, what will become of human evolution?

The way I see it, both gods are bad. Yaldabaoth will return humanity to primal animalistic instincts, while mekhane will destroy everything that makes us unique, all individuality and free will would be lost as the world would become but pure machine.

He might serve as a protector.

Perhaps, but then humans would become even MORE complex! With higher tech, will they become more corrupt?

Maybe with yaldabaoth. But maybe yaldabaoth could become an ally possibly.

Awesome! This is one of the best depictions of Mekhane ever!

Personally, though, I don't think Yaldabaoth has ever been considered a "female" in the mythos of the Mehanites and the Sarkic Cults. From my understanding, Mekhane has in more recent times sometimes been referred to as a female, while Yaldabaoth was always male. But, I could be wrong about that.

In any case, wonderful picture! I hope you do more with these characters!

Melhane is equated with the male god Fuxi and Yaldabaoth with Nuwa here:

Actually, Yaldabaoth was referred to as female in the tale The Maker and The Beast which you can read here: www.scp-wiki.net/the-maker-and…

In other words, it depends on author and most works involving Sarkics don't often mention Yaldabaoth as far as I seen.

Ohhh, interesting! :) Sadly, like I said, I haven't read much about the Sarkic Cults from the source (or many SCPs in general); to be honest, I actually learned more about the Church and the Cults from TV Tropes, and they didn't mention that so I didn't know.

I can see that, and I think it'll be interesting to check out since I want to do some SCP (fan) fiction as well, and I'd like to see different interpretations of the characters. :)
