10-YEAR ARTIST ALLEY ANNIVERSARY
EXACTY 10-yrs ago on this day, I did my very first Artist Alley table. This was a local con run by my friend. Peep the table setup haha. I did horrendous at this show. Later that year, I went to Anime Expo with a notebook in hand and walked around the big Artist Alley taking notes of people's booths, the display, the pricing, fan art vs original, etc. This was before phones had, like, real cameras haha, so I couldnt just snap a picture of their tables and had to make little sketches in my notebook. It wasn't until late 2014 did I do another con, which was also horrendous for me. So I sat out, thinking that it wasn't for me, and just kept doing private work. But the concept of traveling for cons and selling my art, along with knowing how much money could be made at these things, had me go back out mid-2015 with some decent success. I poured all of my capital into 2016 shows, knowing that if I kept half assing it, I'd keep getting half assed results. I gained experience, then went full
My OC, DTIYS!
To celebrate 10-years of drawing, I'm hosting my first DTIYS challenge with my OC, Ryder! I created her in 2014, during a pretty dark period in my life where I was still finding my place as an artist. Any time I wanted to experiment with a new style, or needed to express something, I drew her and applied those things to her design/expressions. Ryder has been my blank canvas, and I want her to be yours too. TWO RULES: -Upload here to DA, Tag your Deviation #ryderdtiys, and mention me @ccayco (so I get notified you've uploaded) -Take whatever style, color palette, pose, you've been wanting to test, or any frustration, joy, or thoughts you have as an artist right now and put it into drawing her. All submissions will earn you a Quartz Badge, a Watch from me, a Llama, and a showcase on a dedicated Twitch stream (https://www.twitch.tv/ccaycoart). DEADLINE: 1 Dec 2022 (12am pst) Here are some references:
ARTIST, a YouTube series
I have been creating a YouTube series called "ARTIST" since 2014. The series has followed me through every stage of my development as an artist. Looking back on it, it's a very rough and honest, incredibly intimate, look into my mind as I've navigated my way through life. I started drawing in 2012, taking smaller commissions to earn money on the side. I made sure to always record my drawings, then post the timelapses to YouTube. Those videos let people know I was open for work, and that's how I got continuous work, even without an established name or online presence. But the money wasn't enough. My friend took me to a local anime convention and showed me the Artist Alley. He said that all those artists did was travel and sell their work, and they can make A LOT of money. So I tried my hand at a local show and did HORRIBLY. (Da Ani Kami Con 2013, my first table) A few months later I went to the biggest anime convention in the US, Anime Expo in Los Angeles, with just a notebook and
DEXTERITY TEST! a DeviantArt Collective Challenge
It's AUGUST, meaning a lot of you are getting ready to do some Inking in October. How about you test your skills and physical capabilities by taking part in my DEXTERITY TEST. Details below, but basically get out of your comfort zone and show everyone that you can draw with any tool and any hand! I believe that, with enough practice, a dedicated artist can break their mental barrier and become efficient with their nondominant hand. I'll be doing some dual-wielding demos on Twitch all month! https://www.twitch.tv/ccaycoart *DIGITAL AND TRADITIONAL OK* *UPLOAD AS MANY DRAWINGS AS YOU WANT! I WANT TO SEE A LOT!* #DEXTERITYTEST
