Adwaita-Dark-3.14-rev.2 by cbowman57 Adwaita-Dark-3.14-rev.2 by cbowman57
Gnome shell, GTK & metacity for 3.14

Nothing really significant but discovered that the gtk-3.0 theme could be run without being compiled so simplified use by being able to keep everything in a single theme folder.  Also uses Adwaita metacity with native dark colors making hardcoded Elementary metacity I included earlier unnecessary.

Also attempted to correct some entry box problems in Firefox (gtkrc) and probably some other browsers & applications.

Shell theme created by me
Adwaita dark gtk3 by the Adwaita team
Dark gtk2 modified by me from Adwaita gtk2
Metacity Adwaita

Change log:
11.11.14
Gtk3 theme updated to 3.14.5
Added some nth: row variegation & hover effects

*note: I use & develop my themes on Archlinux, if you use another distro & the theme, particularly the GTK, doesn't display properly it may be because your distribution doesn't yet support it.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Needed this. Never really themed gnome 3 before and this got all my non gtk3 windows to turn gray, so my eyes don't get burnt out. You are awesome. Please keep up the great work!

This line in the fixes for Firefox section:

GtkWidget::cursor-color = "#000"

unfortunately changes the caret everywhere by default, which makes it invisible in other apps. The Firefox code should perhaps be commented out by default, with instructions on how to activate it just for Firefox…

Good catch.

Am using 3.16 now & have quit doing themes.
Your comment will have to be only correction that current& future users can apply themselves.

I tried it with 3.16 without noticeable problems but with the changes they made by compiling the theme into a resource file put a crimp in my process.

On top of that my PC is in the UK and I'm in the US until late July. If I can figure out how to work around what they changed odds are this won't be updated until 3.18 comes out.

For me, it's mainly buttons are not styled correctly any more in some apps since 3.16, e.g. Chromiums alert dialog boxes, or SublimeText's save dialog. (buttons are still light, so light text on light background makes it unreadable).

Not a major problem for me as I generally know what they buttons are for :)

Great theme btw, been using it for about a month or two, and really like it.

Thank you.

Was only able to give it a quick glance on my son's machine but not in a position that allows me to put the hours/days required to try and update it. Plus the fact they made changes that for the time being prevent me from working on it the way I've grown used to.

Glad you're one of the few that likes it. :-)

Not sure if this will help with Thunderbird, but it's how I 'fix' Firefox on my system.

It's a dark theme, if you use Firefox you can make a custom  .gtkrc-2.0 file in the user directory that contains something like this: (Can also apply Firefox, maybe Thunderbird theme that works)
style "ff" {
text[NORMAL] = "#000000"
base[NORMAL] = "#FFFFFF"
}
class "GtkInvisible" style "ff"
widget "GtkInvisible" style "ff"

I don't use Thunderbird so not in a situation to code around it.

As for putting it on AUR, would be nice but I wouldn't even know where to begin.

I'm probably done making themes anyway. :-)

Wow! Finally! Great work!
GNOME 3 is a big change for us all. We have to adjust our habits, needs, expectations from a desktop environment. No real system tray. No real window list. No real customization, only weird extensions that usually break after a GNOME update. But OK, I'd probably get used to all of that. But what I'd never get used to is my eyes burning at night when my laptop greets me with light white designs. There are a few (very few) dark GTK3 themes, but most of them are very ugly and break with every GNOME update because the theming engine was changed. Luckily, a dark mode for GTK3 was added afterwards, but most of us rely on GTK2 software, too. This theme finally lets me use my computer at night again. Thank you so much cbowman57, you are a life savior!

I like this theme a lot, but there are some odds and ends in some applications, especially iceweasel/firefox and icedove/thunderbird.
In Firefox:
in some websites, the colour of buttons and the fonts within are changed (example: dict.cc  the "C" button left from the text field (white font on grey background) and the Dropdown Menu below the texfield" (black button not fitting to remaining website)

in thunderbird:
at some areas there is black coloured font on dark-greyish background making it less easy to read (e.g. in the mail folder list)

These issues don't render your work unusable, I just wanted to let you know how you could make it even closer to perfect Wink/Razz

regards
Markus

Edit: picked a dark theme for firefox and thunderbird and every issue except the partially misplaced design of websites is fixed

After updating my system, something must have changed. As you know, Firefox's tabs now have rounded corners since their switch to the Aurora version (mimics Chrome's look)... today your theme does not completely fill in the tabs. It would have filled in the old square tabs, though, if that helps you picture what it's doing to the tabs. So, it's filled like this -->  [__||||||||||||__]  where "||||||||" is your theme's color and "[__|" is where there's no color anymore (it's white). Also, in non-Firefox windows, all your text, button, slider/window controls, and blank space holder tables/fields are now surrounded by dotted lines. Like when you're playing in a WYSIWYG webpage editor, and you make a table with multiple rows and collums and tell it to be invisible, so the program puts dotted lines around your tables so that you know where they are while you're creating (but they don't show up in the finished product when you Preview your work). I hope that makes sense, lol. Looks kinda like this?--->   |__(system icon)__|__name of program__|______|___some text here__|  But this does not appear to be the case in Firefox (no dotted fields/tables), so it's just in system windows. Blah, updates broke the cool theme! :-(

Edit: I just tested out Yeti 3.14 rev.1, and it also displays this same characteristic. :-(
