My beautiful little Emily (thanks again to :iconeirian-stock:) won first place in the beginners level for this contest - having a great theme and wonderful stock made this a delightful contest to enter :iconmanip-contest-award:

Excerpt from Emily by ~stuartreading
'"Why do you need a new fence?" she said.
"Because they took the old one away"
Emily sat in the back of the chair, puzzled as to why anyone should want someone elses's fence. "It was made of iron" the old lady explained. "The government had it - for planes and tanks and the like. They took all the iron. We couldn't have won the war without it!"
"Without your fence?" said Emily. The old lady smiled.

The challenge: Create a scene based on what you think the author is imparting in the short story She hated being left – unless it was with her uncle or Becky or Sammy – that was alright. With other members of the family she hated it; she never knew what to say, what was expected. So she shut up. While others did the bragging and boasting and blurting of news, she made a little silent corner for herself and was still. So no, she didn't want to speak to the lady. She didn't want to be company – for the lady to come back. The door opened; there was a clinking of china, the chiming of a clock. "I've brought you a nice cup of tea and some fruit cake", said the lady. She didn't want to eat the cake; she hated cake; she wanted to by :iconstuartreading:
