characters, critters and cartoons under $400
July 21 - August 15, 2010
Opening reception:  Sunday, July 25th, 2-6 pm

Summer's the perfect time for a little light-hearted levity, a little mischief.  This year's show features a wide range of fun-filled nuttiness, everything from toys gone bad to the Seven Deadly Sins (in glitter, of course).  What happens if the video game character of your youth visits the San Francisco of today, or characters from your favorite scifi series show up on a surf board, or as customized rubber ducks?!  A lovely group of animal portraits and paintings of vintage toys rounds out the show.  As usual, everything's under $400, with loads of items under $200.  A list of participating artists is below; click here to see some images from the show.

I am  featured this month on Synchronized Chaos Webzine and they wrote a nice little blurb about my work

Starting today, all proceeds from my prints, t-shirts, mugs, mouse pads and various products sold on etsy, DeviantArt, CafePress and Zazzle will be donated to Living Compassion.

They are an amazing group of people who do great work both here and in Africa, helping people end suffering. Because they are Monks, living at a Zen Monastery, they survive totally on proceeds from retreats/workshops and donations from the community. The recession has hit them hard as people have less to donate and cannot afford to go on retreat.

The Monastery is in jeopardy as is all their charitable work in Africa and around the US.

So, if you buy a refrigerator magnet with a Lil' Abomination on it, I will donate my profit as soon as possible afterward. Spread the word!

I've got 3 shows coming up in the next 3 months!

I just found out yesterday that I was accepted as a member of Big Umbrella Studios!
I will participate in the All Members Showcase in March.
I'm so excited.
Here is a link to their website:
Clearly they aren't done with it. Maybe I can help them out :)

Here is their page on Yelp:…

In April one of my Lil' Abominations will be in a show at Chuckwa in Fullerton, CA.…

the show is curated by United CAT artist's consortium.

In May, 3 of my pieces will be in the All-Gurlz Again show at Eclectix Gallery in El Cerrito, CA.

I don't know when the openings will be but I will let you know as soon as I find out more.

I just got home from a weekend home to attend my Dad's memorial. I feel like I have been turned inside out and beaten with a meat tenderizer. I haven't been able to paint and am wondering if my new, happy, joyful celebrations of deformity are going to come to a screeching halt. It's too soon yet to work out any of these feelings  via painting therapy but I may feel the need to start  spewing out deeply disturbing and heartrendingly honest pieces soon.

To tell you the truth, I've been really happy to be able to paint something fun and cute and light and don't really want to paint the cathartic expressive stuff I've been doing for years.

I really did have my heart set on doing a calf with two noses next.

I feel a little funny about it but i just created an ad on facebook for my paintings. How will my friends feel when they get an ad on the side of their browser for my work. It makes me cringe a bit.
Kinda tacky?
I don't know. All I know is I want to get a lot of exposure so I'm using every means at my disposal. I'm trying not to think of it as "art" but rather as a product I'm trying to push. I want people to buy mugs and magnets and crap with my images on them and they have to see them to do that so that's what I'm trying to accomplish.

I've been fiddling with a new website and it is almost complete. I still have to add a page of older work but I'm pretty happy with the way it's turning out. My house guest didn't seem to mind too much that I spent half of his visit tweaking the CSS to move things around and change colors a million times.
I'm hoping to get a show somewhere when this series is complete so I'm preparing now to start applying to galleries.

Mutants and freaks of nature have always fascinated me. Whenever I see a picture of a deformed or mutated creature I cant stop looking at it. Has nature just made a mistake or is this the result of mankind’s meddling? How is it that these critters can be simultaneously so cute and so repulsive?
Don’t mutants deserve love too?

I'm working on this new series of mutant animals and am about to have them all photographed. They will all me uploaded here and on my personal website when they are done.
