The days were getting shorter and also a little colder. Since Lumos had to learn how to stand alone in his stable he couldn’t stand next to his mother to get some extra heat. Of course Fari’s stable was straight across.
Lumos was shaking a bit. Aurelion was curious and looked in Lumos his stable. “Are you cold?” she asked.
“Yes a little. Normally I would stand against my mom, but I guess that won’t happen right now”.
“That probably won’t happen no. But the humans should know we’re cold. We should get our blankets soon”.
“What’s a blanket” asked Lumos with his head slightly angled.
“Blankets are like grass sort of. It’s soft and it keeps you warm when the days get colder”.
While Aurelion was finishing the sentence Caithlyn came walking in the stables with a few blankets and a bucket. She went in the stable of a few horses and gave them their blanket. Not soon after Leone came in the stable with another pile of blankets. When all the blankets were put on the horses they both walked towards Lumos his stable. He stood curious in the middle of his stable while slightly shaking. “We are just in time. Look at this poor baby shaking” said Caith with a baby tone in her voice. Leona had the blanket in her hands while Caith had a bucket filled with a few carrots and horse candy. Lumos already smelled the carrots and came closer. Caith gave him the bucket and not a second after he was already eating. Leona softly put the blanket on his back. Lumos didn’t notice the blanket until he started his last carrot. He pulled his head up and dropped the carrot from his mouth. He was not used to the feeling and it made him aa little uneasy. So he tried to kick it a few times. Caithlyn and Leona stepped back a bit, but stayed close enough in case something went wrong.
Aurelion curiously looked in his stable again and saw him kicking the blanket. “You know it’s easier to just stand still” she said. “It’s not going to hurt you.”
“Just because it doesn’t hurt me, doesn’t mean I have to immediately like it” said Lumos agitated. Even though he just gave that answer he stopped kicking and gave standing still a try. It was indeed not as bad as he initially though it was. Caithlyn and Leona saw that he calmed down and closed the stable. In the morning they would go back and check how his first night with a blanket went.
The next morning
Everybody was getting the horses ready, but Leona was already going towards Lumos his stable. He was sleeping with the blanket safely and untouched on his back. She opened the stable and softly woke him up. He opened his eyes and sniffed loudly. Leona walked out of the stables to get some breakfast for him.
“You see Lumos. A blanket is not as bad” said Aurelion. Lumos didn’t really care for the ‘I told you so’ comment. He slept amazing, was still warm, bot carrots and it was already time for breakfast.528 words
