Description
This was a project done for one of my classes, taught by the amazing Barron Storey. He had us read a short story of our choosing by author Steven Millhauser, who is known to write in a very surreal and visual style. The one I chose was "The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad", which tells of a hypothetical eighth voyage (there were traditionally seven), that the legendary sailor may or may not have embarked on.
I can't fully describe the effect this story had on me. It was boring at times, sure, but it ended up getting really deep and fascinating as it went on and by the end it had my mind racing. It's a great reflection on what it means to tell and experience stories, and how their evolving nature can relate to that of our own life journeys.
This piece itself was very experimental. There was a lot of weird new techniques and style elements I tried. Some of them worked out, and some didn't, but it was kind of fun to work on nonetheless.
