Amalie had taken a break to watch Black tear around the turnout. The head collar had lasted a few seconds before it was torn off, lost in the sea of grass. Amalie supposed it was just one of those things that she would have to get used to, trying to catch Black without a halter. With a heavy sigh she ran a hand through her hair and leaned against the fence.
"You don't look like your usual self, Amalie."
The ginger turned around to see Sobian there, hobbling up to the fence for support. Amalie guessed she was avoiding Sheik, who would have insisted that she take the weight off and move to the wheelchair. She greeted her with a smile nonetheless. "Hey. Yeah, I've a lot on my mind."
"I see." The pair turned their eyes to the black stallion charging around the paddock. "Are you sure about him, Amalie?" Sou asked, a serious, if not exasperated, tone lacing her words.
"I know you don't like him,"
"Amalie, nobody likes him."
"I know, but..." She sighed again, stress showing itself on her face. Sobian patted her on the back. "He's important! His name came up in the file constantly! Besides, he's hardly a bad runner. He just needs some manners,"
"Put him in with any of my other horses and I'm turning him into a dressage saddle." Sobian warned in a dark tone. The threat was there, even if the words were false, Amalie knew that as far as Sobian was concerned, the horse was unwelcome.
"I won't..." Amalie mumbled in a small voice. The spunky red head looked smaller all together. "I need this, Sobian. I need it. I can't ignore it, not now." She implored - begged, almost. Now it was Sobian's turn to sigh.
"I read the file. I hate agreeing with you on this but I can't deny this horse is mixed up in your father's murder somehow. Just, please, don't ask me how, the whole thing is absurd and I'm terrified of letting you chase this."
"I can't let it go, Sou."
Sobain stood up and turned away. "I didn't let it go either," Sou admitted, "but although I found everything out, my life was ruined. Sometimes our families hide this stuff in the deepest holes so we don't go digging them out. Think very seriously about this, Amalie. Sometimes the price isn't worth the truth." With those ambiguous words, Soupbian left, leaving a fretting red head.
