One Year =)

Sat May 18, 2013, 5:21 AM
Hey everyone!
I just wanted to mention that today it has been one year since I posted my first deviation.  I know on my profile, it says I've been a member for 4 years...but I only became active a year ago.  I'm so appreciative of all the feedback I've gotten and I never thought I would get so many followers.
Thank you thank you thank you
I'm also very proud of how much I have learned about photography and editing.  I see myself improving a little more with every shoot and that means so much to me.

Here's a recap of some fun moments from the past year:

The Messiest:

The Wettest:

The ones where timing was so crucial:

Hey Everyone =)

I just wanted to give everyone a quick update, as I haven't did a personal journal in awhile.  I'm almost done school for this year.  I have 3 exams and they'll be done next Friday.  I'm so thrilled!  I've been feeling so much more like an artist than a biologist lately, so it's been sort of hard to stick it out.  I'm already starting to feel better knowing it's almost over and I made it through.

In May, it will be one year since I've started posting on deviantart.  I'm so grateful for all the feedback-- and my amazing ~270 watchers! I feel I have learned so much about photography, not only from practicing myself but from other deviants.  This truly is an amazing site for learning, sharing, and finding art.

So, for Summer vacation, my main goal is just to build on my gallery.  I only have 53 photos, and I'd love to increase this number!  I'm going to have my camera out everyday I swear.  It will be great!  Of course I still have plenty of ideas for self-portraits, but I do want to expand on the nature/animal portion of my gallery, so we'll see how that goes!

My second goal is basically self-improvement.  I can't wait for the gym to be my second home again! I love the way exercise makes me feel.  I want to get stronger and back in shape! And hopefully with that, I can feel better about myself.

Thanks again everyone =)
And I hope you will continue to support me as I embark on this creative journey!  Can't wait !

So I went to see Lady GaGa in Toronto on Saturday.  It was so inspiring--the way she uses her creativity in song, performance, and fashion.  She has a lot of dance tunes, but even beyond the catchy beat are amazing lyrics that mean something.  This video is of my favourite song by Lady GaGa.  Unfortunately, she didn't sing this song on Saturday, but this performance is amazing!  Enjoy it!  She's not all about crazy outfits and stunts.  There's actually such a creative drive in her.

So...What's new with me?

Well, I've been thinking about my next cosplay for a few conventions coming up.  I was looking through a bunch of female characters, seeing which ones I could pull off.  But, I don't know.  I'm not really attached to anyone like I am to Poison Ivy.  I feel like I can't be anyone else, simple because I AM Poison Ivy.  SO! I was thinking about doing her again, but a different look.  She has quite a different look in the New 52 Series. I first wasn't too thrilled about it, because she's completely covered.  But I read a review on the look, and someone was saying how this outfit proves that Poison Ivy can still be sexy without showing skin.  I think that is very very true, and I think I can pull that off!  I'm also thinking of doing a Black Canary one as well --it would be pretty easy to do.  Here's what I have in mind:
Poison Ivy new 52 by TyroneJames Black Canary by MikeMahle

I did a feature not too long ago of all the amazing portraits I found on deviantart.  I noticed I only had a few male portraits.  Most I see on Deviantart are female portraits.  So I've been on a hunt to find amazing male portraits, because males can be expressive/emotive and have amazing concepts! I'll be doing a feature soon to show you what I found.  If you have any amazing male portraits or if you have found an extraordinary one, do note me with a link.  I'd love to see!

I've been having a good time working on my 52 week photo challenge.  It's definately keeping me busy.  I have next week off from school, and I have definately kept some time open to create so pretty cool pieces.  I need a break from school so bad--I'm really looking forward to the time off.  Also, next Sunday (the 24th) is my birthday, so a week off from school is an awesome gift I'm telling you!

Lastly, I have accumulated quite a few new watchers lately.  I do want to thank all of you, as well as those who have been watching me since day one.  Your support is so appreciated -- always favouriting my pieces and commenting. Thank you, thank you, thank you.  I do have to mention that the feedback I got on my deviation "Explosions" has been overwhelming.  It's reached over 100 favourites.  It was actually sort of an accident that this photo was even taken.  I had already went out on another shoot and had arrived home.  I went to my room and opened my blind and the way the light hit my bed was so precious.  I got down and took a few more shots, and came out with this beautiful photo.  There's very little editing to it, so it's very natural.

Well, I think this enough of an update for today.
Thanks again,
And I'll talk to you all soon

"I was always an unusual girl, my mother told me that I had a chameleon soul.
No moral compass pointing me due north, no fixed personality.
Just an inner indecisiviness that was as wide and wavering as the ocean.
And if I said that I didn't plan for it to turn out this way I'd be lying- because I was born to be the other woman.
I belonged to no one- who belonged to everyone,
who had nothing- who wanted everything.
With a fire for every experience and an obssesion for freedom that terrified me to the point that I couldn't even talk about
and pushed me to a nomadic point of madness that both dazzled and dizzied me"

I think it's really easy to forget how to feel.
I think we all get so comfortable in feeling the same way day in and day out, that it becomes hard to break those chains.
When we start feeling something new, it's unfamiliar and terrifying.
So we unconsciously retreat back to what we know how to feel.
By doing so, we allow ourselves to be numb.
Let's not do this anymore.
Let's feel again.

"If I were you I'd let it go
And feel it all over inside like a chemical
Cause to tell the truth I dont know if its ever over
We don't need a cure for the weight of the world
Cause its floating round in the universe
Just swinging like its tied by a string that you hold
And let it go"

See ya later 2012 !!!!!

For 2013, I'll be doing the 52-week photo challenge simply because I'm happiest when taking pictures.  It's so easy to lose sight of what's important when engulfed by the daily routine of school and work, not to mention the suppression of creativity.  It turns out I'm much more proud of the photos I take than the A's I get in University.  So, this year will be different.  I will make my happiness just as big of a responsibility as earning a paycheck and finishing my assignments. That's all I really want from the year.  I will let everything go.  I will feel better and I will do better things.  It's all going to be better.

"Every night I used to pray that I'd find my people. And finally I did -- on the open road.
We had nothing to lose, nothing to gain, nothing that we desired anymore -- Except to make our lives into a work of art.

I believe in the country America used to be.  I believe in the person I want to become.
I believe in the freedom of the open road and my motto is the same as ever.
I believe in the kindess of strangers. And when I'm at war with myself, I ride, I just ride.

Who are you?  Are you in touch with all of your darkest fantasies?  Have you created a life for yourself where you can experience them.
I have. I am fucking crazy, but I am Free."

All I want to do is move mountains with my pictures.
I want to quit speech and communicate solely through images
I want to expose vulnerable emotions that words don't adequately express.
It's not even necessary for me to be in the picture
I want to take a picture of something so simple and boring and turn it into something so raw and emotional.
You understand...
I am an artist.

NEW CAMERA !!!! =)

Journal Entry: Sat Jul 7, 2012, 4:35 PM
I got my first DSLR camera today -- Nikon D3200 (24.2 MP!!).  I'm super excited to get out and take some pictures with it.  I'll have to say goodbye to my samsung compact camera.  It's given me some great pictures!  I'll be posting the last of my pictures from that camera, and then start fresh in a week or so with better, clearer pictures - most likely of my cosplay!

God, life is good these days =)

Redefining the Self-Portrait

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 5, 2012, 8:43 AM
I find that all too often self-portraits are associated with either typical "myspace shots" using a camera at arms length or as a means to draw attention to yourself/boost your ego.  I find that these are the general stereotypes of self-portraits.  I even found a group on deviantart stating a rule that only a few self-portraits could be submitted, because the purpose of the group was not to boost egos.  Of course sometimes, these stereotypes are true.  However, on deviantart, I have seen so many spectacular self-portraits that put these stereotypes to shame.

Self-portraits are a unique art-form in which you can express yourself in creative ways.  There are so many emotions experienced everyday, and self-portraits are a way to draw on these emotions, exagerate them and construct them.  They truly are an art, and can be breathtakingly beautiful.  So far, my gallery only includes self-portraits solely because I enjoy expressing myself and illustrating my own ideas as a model and a photographer.

I hold high respect for self portrait photographers who can design a set, model, and take and edit photos.  It takes a lot of effort and talent.  And I thank the deviantart site for allowing not only self portrait photographers, but all photographers and artists a place to share their work.

Keep being creative <3

Hello Everyone =)
I've had my account for many years, but never posted anything.  But finally, with school being out for the summer, I've found myself some spare time and a lot of inspiration and drive to be creative.  I have a lot of ideas for some great photoshoots.  I would love to share them with the deviantart community !
Also, I recently became interested in cosplay!  After taking so many self-portraits, it's both exciting and fresh to take on another look and portray that character! I'm currently working on Poison Ivy.  I hope to be done in the next month, and will definately share.  I have other comic characters in mind that I'll work on in the future.
