elementary Minecraft Installer (Supports Ubuntu!)

By CassidyJames
This used to just be an icon, but now it's a full-fledged installer. Load up the PPA: [link]. Or, if you'd prefer the manual script, it's attached (but it won't be getting updates whereas the PPA will).

Includes 48- and 64-pix icons I made in Inkscape to look particularly perfect in elementary (but also look good in Ubuntu and elsewhere). Also has QuickList items for your screenshots folder, texture packs folder, and the Minecraft Wiki!

I do the following:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:minecraft-installer-peeps/minecraft-installer
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install minecraft-installer

I have openjdk7 installed.  I see the icon and click on it and absolutely nothing happens.

1.6 support! Please!

It's supported. Give it another go?

You might want to update this to support 1.6 and its new launcher.

anyone know the command to launch this from the terminal. I need to use the dedicated card on my laptop to play minecraft thus need to use bumblebee (aka run optirun in front of the command to have the laptop use the nvidia gpu)
java -Xmx2048M -Xms512M -cp /usr/share/minecraft/minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame. You can modify the .desktop file to put your optirun in front of it, so you can just click the icon and have it use optirun.

I was wondering if this only works with a premium account? cause my step-son doesn't have a premium account and he wants to try the demo I tried to use it under the demo it didn't do anything but hang at the download progress bar

It works just like the official Minecraft, well, because it is (it downloads it from Mojang). The way their client works is that you have to log into a valid Minecraft account the first time per user on the computer to download the appropriate files.
