Growing up in the South Pole, Katara had often dreamt about paradise. In the South Pole, there was nothing but snow and ice and, as much as she loved both, it was hardly paradise. As a little girl, she had often dreamed about sailing to far away islands, where the weather was pleasant and there were sandy beaches bordered by thick jungles, where exotic flowers bloomed and birds sang. She imagined swimming in the azure, warm waters of a tropical bay and watching the sun paint the sky as it rose and set. But after her mother had died and her father left to fight in the war, she thought she'd never find her paradise.
Travelling with Aang changed all of that. During the war there were a few places she they visited that she thought might have passed for paradise. The Air Temples, tucked away from the rest of the world, would have been the perfect paradise, if they hadn't been cluttered with debris and brimming with ghosts of the past.
