Ann Marie: Birthday Cake by Cassandrina Ann Marie: Birthday Cake by Cassandrina
A Birthday Cake for my friend's mother. I'm also naming the cake design "Ann Marie" in her honor. ^ - ^

I tried my best to make this cake as chocolaty as possible!
It's base is chocolate covered in chocolate buttercream with a chocolate mousse filling in the centre (the coloured icing is buttercream as well).

I started out with a general plan and then kept going from there. Luckily I stopped myself before I got carried away with the icing. I'm quite pleased with how it turned out especially since it was entirely my own design and there were moments when I thought it wasn't going to turnout... O . O

Surprisingly, the hard part turned out to be the cake itself. For some reason (most likely because of the humidity) the top center of the cake refused to bake! > . < I left it in for an extra twenty some minutes after wrapping in foil and it was still having issues but if I left it any longer the rest of the cake would have been overcooked. I took it out, let it cool, and then hacked off the ugly undercooked top and the rest of it was baked perfectly oddly enough, so it all worked out for the best. ^ - ^

I love it too! Especially because It's one of the few artistic skills I actually possess (outside of writing). ^ . -

The course I took was with Wilton and we had our sessions at Michael's Craft Store once a week for one month. Unfortunately, they don't go over the actual baking in much detail but I did manage to pick up a few tricks. Sometimes stores that specialize in cakes will also offer courses so you could try there as well.

Yeah, I'll look out for some classes :) I can bake from recipes just fine, but decorating is something I want to learn more about. All I can really do is frost, write with chocolate, and stick candy all over it. Haha XD
