Taking the Scenic Route

I took one of my sketches and decided to do a lot of experimentation. I realized the world of Ion Valley, while grounded in reality, didn't have enough of that "Disney" magic as you'd call it. I wanted to try another shot at nature and make something that felt like an enchanted forest. I tried a lot of new illustration techniques as well, borrowing nature references from Bill Watterson and forest inspirations from movies like Avatar. I decided to paint Arlo and Enzo up a bit more, abandoning the cartoon cell aesthetic. Also....color theory, bow howdy did I get a test in that. Hopefully I didn't go TOO psychedelic. XD

Here's Arlo and Enzo coming home from school. Arlo decided he wanted to take a different path home and show Enzo the new route. I wish my walk home from school looked this nice. :D

Holy crap man. This really transformed between the last stream I saw and now. It looks totally awesome! The only thing I have to note is that the lines seems to stick out a little bit too much. Maybe it's just that they're right next to the painterly bits that's jarring, but it looks a bit off to me. Could just be me though :P

Great job as always!

Which lines? BG or characters? I tried a lot of new things this time around and did it 100% in Photoshop this time. Just curious.

Mostly on the characters. Like on Enzo's little necktie and arm. It seems a bit too sharp and contrasted to just be the sort of glow around a character who's in front of a light.

There aren't many places it's an issue, but that's one of them for me.

Eh, to each their own. The piece was a lot of different experiments. Some work, some don't I guess. Thanks. :D
