Description
For my character modeling class, I chose to model my first Phineas and Ferb OC, Jolissa. I think it turned out nicely, though, unlike in my concept art, her hair looks a bit weird from the front. My top struggles with her were her hair, eyes, feet, and shoes. For her eyes, I really wanted the eyeballs to stick out the way they did in the concept, but without having them penetrate the head mesh. Initially, I thought it was impossible since making the gaps in the head to fit the eyeballs into also left gaps that broke up the straight lines that formed the shape of the head. Thankfully, though, my teacher helped me with that one. The eyelids were a bit of a pain to do too since I struggled to figure out an easy way to push a significant amount of the vertices back to expose most of the underlying eyeballs, while also maintaining good topology. Initially, I thought the hair might be easy, but it also turned out to be a challenge since I needed to match the intended hairstyle, without having it penetrate the head mesh or making it too wide to be believable. From the start, her feet looked odd. I had trouble making them look even remotely believable, but shaping them was much easier once I imported her base mesh into Zbrush. I think the somewhat odd shape of her feet is the main reason why I had some trouble with her shoes. If I were to do this project again, I'd probably model her in more of a T pose, with her arms all the way up, her legs completely vertical, and her feet facing straight forward.
