Hey everyone! It's time for the next review in NineLivesCaveCat's "Garbage Pail Kids" Season 2 Fanfiction series. Let's jump right into it! COLD OPENING At a psychiatrist's office, the psychiatrist is talking to a woman who is upset about something. She says that her kids are watching the most appalling show she's ever seen. The psychiatrist says it couldn't be that bad, but then the woman says the show they're watching is "Garbage Pail Kids". When the psychiatrist hears this, he is so shocked and upset that him and the woman switch places. Good way to start the fanfic. This might be my favorite cold opening since the one from Episode 1. It's darkly humorous that this show is not only poisoning the minds of children, but causing psychological trauma in their parents as well. MOVIE PARODY SEGMENT: ROCKO THE CHAMPION In the GPK Boxing Federation, an alligator-headed boxer named Ali Gator scores victories over the likes of Bull Doggle, Frog In Your Throat, and Tiger By The Tail. Updated Thoughts on The Loud HouseI HAVE A MAJOR CONFESSION TO MAKE: I DIDN'T WATCH NICKELODEON GROWING UPYeah, I've never mentioned this before. Since I've been on DeviantArt, I would get into discussions about some Nick shows with people without saying whether or not I actually watched them growing up.You see, I was a total Cartoon Network kid growing up. Cartoon Network was the only channel I was interested in watching when I was a kid. I didn't check out Nickelodeon or Disney because I wanted to stay loyal to Cartoon Network. I caught "Spongebob" some and I watched a little bit of "FairlyOdd Parents" and "Jimmy Neutron", but that was about it.Looking back on it, I deeply regret that. When I was a kid, I didn't know any better. I had no idea that there would be a bunch of great shows on the other two kids networks that I would really enjoy. I'm still grateful that I watched so many great shows on Cartoon Network growing up, but I wish I wasn't so close-minded back then. If I could talk to my younger self, I would tell him to expand his horizons. Today, I'm familiar with lots of Nick shows, so better late than ever.In March of 2018, I checked out "The Loud House" for the first time when I randomly turned on Nickelodeon one day because of how I was getting bored with how Cartoon Network is now. It wasn't long before I got hooked on it. I loved the characters, the humor, the energy, and just the heart the show had.It was around a year after I got into "The Loud House" that I started checking out the older Nicktoons I missed out on as a kid. In March of 2019, I started checking out "Danny Phantom" (I was interested in it because it's one of MislamicPearl's favorite shows). Shortly after, I started watching "Rocko's Modern Life" and "My Life as a Teenage Robot".When summer came that year, I started checking out a whole bunch of old Nicktoons: "Ren and Stimpy", "Hey Arnold", "Rugrats", "Doug", "The Wild Thornberry's", and some others. Earlier this year, I finally started binge-watching "Avatar: The Last Airbender" at a friend's house when it became available on Netflix.So yeah, I'm pretty much familiar with Nickelodeon's catalogue by now. I might possibly have "The Loud House" to thank for that. Me coming across the show and really getting into it opened my eyes on what some channels other than Cartoon Network have to offer. To be honest, there are no less than four older Nicktoons I ended up liking even more than "The Loud House", those being "Avatar: The Last Airbender", "Hey Arnold", "Danny Phantom", and "Rocko's Modern Life".However, my connection with "The Loud House" has kind of faded as of late. It's hard to say exactly why. Is it because the show has become a lot less interesting as of late? Is it because of how I've expanded my horizons with animated shows and found a number of others I like more? Is it because I've become sick of all the drama with the show's toxic fandom? Could be any of those.I may have mentioned before how much I despise the fandom. All these Lincoln fanboys who always bitch and complain about how horrible Lincoln's life is even though it's FAR from that. Every time anything slightly bad happens to him, they get out of control and make out a lot of his misfortunes to be worse than they actually are. A lot of these fanfics that they write are just plain awful. I'm sure you're all familiar with the term "St. Lincoln" when describing certain fanfics. I absolutely cannot stand "St. Lincoln" fanfics. The sisters tend to get the "Ron The Death Eater" trope in these stories, and Lincoln is painted as a fragile victim who always gets mistreated and is flawless in every way. There's also Loudcest, but I'd rather not get into that.I know it isn't fair, but my exposure to the fandom has possibly soured my feelings on the show, even though it isn't the show's fault at all. There are some cool people I know from the fandom, but for the most part, the people from there I've seen are petty and immature.There's also the general direction the show has been taking. For context, I have only watched one episode of Season 4 ("Kings of the Con") and haven't watched any of the current season, Season 5. I haven't caught up with the show in a while, because I just haven't been interested in checking out most of the new episodes. This is sometimes because I look up the synopses of the episodes on the show's wikia and don't find them that interesting, and sometimes because I hear from other reviewers that they just aren't that good, and sometimes both. From what people have been saying and from reading what some of the newer episodes are about, it just sounds like they aren't using very interesting story ideas or using the characters to their fullest potential.There's the thing about Chris Savino, the show's creator, getting fired. I won't get too deep into the issue. What I will say is that he undoubtedly deserved to get fired for how he had been acting. However, even if justice was served, it was unfortunate that it had to happen, because I feel that it was after he left that the show started going downhill. The last episode he was involved in was midway through Season 3, which was right around the time the show was getting less interesting. Could this be a coincidence? Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. This is definitely up for debate.When I heard about everything that happened in "Schooled", the Season 5 premiere, I was like, "Oh, snap, the show really isn't gonna recover, is it?" Again, I may not have seen it, but just knowing about the events of the episode and how things are gonna be going forward, I just don't feel compelled to tune into new episodes anymore. It began losing its spark halfway through the third season, and it apparently hasn't gotten any better.I don't even know if I'm making sense or if I'm being fair. It's just that I'm not a massive fan of the show like I used to be. The first two seasons were really great aside from a few stinkers. Season 3 had some really good stuff but was a bit disappointing, and Season 4 (and what's been aired of Season 5) isn't any better, at least from what I've heard."The Loud House" still holds a special place in my heart, because it was basically the first Nicktoon I got seriously hooked on, and it helped me to branch out to other shows. I just hate that it's come to this. I don't just think but KNOW that there are many more creative possibilities that could be explored with the show, but the writers just don't seem terribly interested in exploring them that much.Will I still be talking about "The Loud House"? Eh, sometimes, I guess. I could still talk about material from the show that I've seen, and I could do more of those fanfic reviews that I started doing last year. Hell, I could maybe even talk about newer episodes that are recommended to me or would make for an interesting review. For the most part, though, I'm just not that interested in it anymore at this point in time.
