Since I have been working on a series of emotional portraits I thought I would enter this piece into the "Emotions Contest" hosted by :iconmasterwks: Read about the contest here [link]

The 4th of my emotional series.
The concept behind this piece, is what would make a person scream.

I have been given a bunch of ideas on how to approach this piece. (thanks to all the members who helped with this idea). I plan on doing another piece of someone screaming, for this series, but with a total different concept in mind.

Done in color pencil on stonehenge.

Very cool idea! At first, I didn't notice the tornado because her face was so powerful. That is definitely a reason to scream!

Great presentation, the colours and the composition came together really well! It looks to me like she's more angry than scared though, perhaps her eyes need to be open wider, when someone is scared the reaction is usually wide eyes so that we can see more.

Looking forward to the next piece! :)

Thank you! Your right, I should have made her eyes a tad bit wider. Something to remember next time I do a fear piece :D

well i do have to say that this is a quality piece of drawing.. i must point out that the expression in the face is not really natural.. how difficult that is to put on paper ofc. i can't see real fear in her eyes.. but ofcourse like i said before. That is hard to capture..
technically good but lacks the expression that is trying to be portraied

Thanks so much for your comments! I appreciate your honesty and viewpoint very much.
Yes, you are right it is really hard to capture the fear in someone eyes and that I may not have succeeded in doing. But had you read what I wrote in the artists comments, you would see that the fear was captured in the scream and in her running away from it, but also her eyes tell a different tale. A light, a hope, she sees a way out and is determined to go on. So did I manage to capture that emotion plus fear? I do not know. I just tried my best to portray what I envisioned. And I will keep on practicing til I can master those emotions. It is definitely a challenge for me :)

This is very interesting to me because I have had a tornado fear for many years. The tornado is sufficiently ominous and wicked. Well done!

Thank you!! :) I hear the horror stories every year about towns/homes getting wiped out by them. They are becoming more and more frequent in Oregon and Washington. We have had one come really close by our house a couple of years ago. :fear:

I am very impressed with the idea of creating an image based on an emotion or state of mind. I think you should keep going with it. I have toyed with the idea on occasion, but I always go back to the fact that I will have to be staring at this drawing for a month or so, and I question whether I would be able to deal with an emotion like fear for that long. And so far I've been too wimpy - but someday!!!

lol I always say, dive right in and try something new that you never have tried before, you never know you might learn something new, plus gain a little experience in the challenge. I do plan on continuing on with this series. I am going to take a short little break though, to draw a few pieces for a couple of competitions. :D

..;very well achieved,Carol. As in my precedent comment I mentionned many "possibilities"of interpretation of "this scream".Now,I don't know, exactly what you changed since,I didn't compare the "evolution"of the drawing, but my firts impression, first glance ,was "postive scream".She has the "rage"to go on,to survive,to" win"whatever it costes. In her eyes I can see something very encouraging, and postive. This is my personal point of view, and opinion.:icondarkmarek::love:

Actually, I added several more layers of colors and darkened up several areas, since my last post on this. You can see the step by step progress of it here [link]
My scanner always scans art in lighter than what it is, so I did darken it up a wee bit to match the actual piece.

As for the meaning behind this piece, you are pretty much correct. She's terrified. She's scared out of her wits and is running and screaming to get away from her fear. But if you look into her eyes, you can see that, she see's a light, a way out, hope, and is determined to go on. She is a survivor. :)
I think it is an emotion that all of us have gone through at one time or another, but each of us handling it in our own way. Her determination, strength and fight, is what I hope I would do, should I ever be in that sort of situation. :D
