Lion and the mouse Ink wash by Carliihde Lion and the mouse Ink wash by Carliihde
Once when a Lion was asleep a little Mouse began running up and down upon him; this soon wakened the Lion, who placed his huge paw upon him, and opened his big jaws to swallow him. "Pardon, O King," cried the little Mouse: "forgive me this time, I shall never forget it: who knows but what I may be able to do you a turn
some of these days?" The Lion was so tickled at the idea of the Mouse being able to help him, that he lifted up his paw and let him go. Some time after the Lion was caught in a trap, and the hunters who desired to carry him alive to the King, tied him to a tree while they went in search of a wagon to carry him on. Just then the little Mouse happened to pass by, and seeing the sad plight in which the Lion was, went up to him and soon gnawed away the ropes that bound the King of the Beasts. "Was I not right?" said the little Mouse.

Moral of the story- Little friends may prove great friends

We had an assignment in class to illustrate a black and white drawing for one of Aesop's Fables. I chose the Lion and the Mouse because it's a classic, and I like it because I'm little too, just like the mouse :) All in ink wash, some white out for the whiskers and such. It's also my entry for Francis Manipul's "Heroic animal" contest on Schoolism. *crosses fingers*
Critiques always welcome!

Wow, I love this! The fur and hair texture is wonderful.
I remember I when I was little, I had a book of fables and one of them was about a falcon chasing a sparrow and trying to kill it for food. Then a farmer came up and wrung the falcon's neck, his justification being that the sparrow had never done anything to deserve being dinner. The moral: don't hurt those who haven't hurt you.
I remember I was so upset I burned the book and cried my eyes out, the little dramatic kid that I was, feeling mad at the farmer and bad for the falcon, who was probably just trying to feed her babies. xD

Excuse my babbling... x]Again, you did a beautiful job on this.

It's strange, but the rope near the lion's forehead kind of looks like a circlet, giving him the appearance of a king almost leaning down to listen to one of his servants...just noticed that. :)

Hey man, thank you so much for the awesome compliment! I looked through your gallery and WOW. Your paintings are fantastic! So much detail, So much life, it all looks so really. Really inspired me to paint a dinosaur myself! Fantastic work. i think my favorite thing about the dinosaurs is the fact that no one knew exactly what color the dinosaurs were and you take advantage of that by giving them such beautiful unique patterns on their skin. Really great work, acrylic is such a difficult medium to use
