soooooo.... i got my hands on dA's new 'eclipse' site layout, and my initial impression is:
it's mostly crap.
the main problem is that everything is now HUGE. comments and replies in your inbox are HUGE and surrounded by clutter (a section of your original comment if it is a reply, a thumbnail of the deviation the conversation is happening on etc.). status updates are HUGE empty boxes with a few words in the middle.
'feedback' (formerly known as your messages/inbox/whatever) now displays everything in a single feed, rather than dividing it up into sections, though it looks like you can 'group by type'. each message takes up so much space, though, that you can only see about 2 on your screen at a time. i don't know if it is designed to work better on mobile than desktop, but i do know that over 70% of my visitors are on desktops, so this will be shit for most of you.
i haven't added a cover pic (v facebooky), but that's about the only customisation you can do to your homepage at the moment apart from re-adding status updates. notice how massive the box for the status update is? it dwarfs the pics themselves, but really doesn't offer much. journals have also disappeared from the home page
one minor improvement is that journals, statuses and polls now have their own section, with equal billing. so that's cool. still made of unnecessary HUGE empty boxes, of course, so i'm still rating it as shit. something interesting is that the submit menu now lists 'deviation' 'status update' 'journal' 'literature' and 'poll' separately, so it looks like 'deviations' and 'literature' have been separated out, and there is FINALLY a direct way to create a poll.
what i'll be interested to see is how stuff created in eclipse (like this journal) look when viewed in classic dA, and i will be finding that out as soon as i've posted this because i will be switching back again as fast as i can run! XO
