"Hmph.... I can't believe this. I really can't." Nyx mumbled to herself as she paced back and forth in the foyer of the laboratory building. "Going down into basically a pit of radiation. I mean, seriously! How freakin' DUMB do you have to be...?!"
She paced again, back and forth, back and forth, stopping to kick away a pile of leaves before pacing again. Then finally she stopped. Sighing, she leaned against the wall beside the door and looked out through the dirt stained glass into the wastelands.
"And what if they don't come back...? How am I gonna get back...?"
Heading back through the wastes by herself wasn't an invitin prospect. Even if she flew, it would take a couple of hours. And, she had to be honest.... she wasn't really paying much attention to the route they'd taken on the way here. She had absolutely no doubt that she would get lost attempting the journey alone.
"Urgh... This is freakin' IMPOSSIBLE...!!" She snarled to no onr as she pushed away from the wall and
At last, they reached the laboratory.
Aubrey stopped outside the entrance, once overgrown with clibming plants before they had succumbed to the wastes, and took out his Geiger counter. He had been disturbed by some noises in the distance - terrible screeching sounds, like a wounded Pokemon - and he didn't want to take any chances.
"So... This is why we came out here...?" Nyx grunted, folding her arms as she looked the decrepit. "...A nasty, broken old building?"
"Actually, a nasty, broken old laboratory!" The professor corrected her merrily. Hands on hips, she looked up at the building and smiled. "Who knows what incredible mysteries lay inside!"
Happy bug noises emitted from Araneae's direction.
Laurel frowned at the building and whispered to Nyx, "Hmm... I actually think I'm with you on this one."
"You two really have no thrill left in you, do you?" Jangle sighed.
Nyx quickly turned to her and extended a sharp claw her way. "If you compare us one more
"No. No way. Not this time."
Laurel's answer seemed pretty final, but Professor Aspen wasn't about to give up so quickly.
"Oh, please, Laurel.... What harm would it do...?"
Laurel looked up from the pages of her new book, 'Dawn til Dust', and gave the professor a 'how old are you' look.
The professor waited with anticipation for a response. When one didn't come, she said, "...Is that a 'yes'?"
"No, it's not." Laurel said, burying her head in the book again.
The professor sighed, looked back at Serena and Araneae, who had followed her to the cabin to try and convince Laurel. Neither of them looked hopeful.
From the stairwell, Jangle appeared, instantly noticing the tension in the room. She looked at the professor hanging her head. Then she looked at Laurel, sitting on the couch, head in a book that she was clearly no longer reading. Beyond Laurel, Nyx sat on a chair by the couch, clearly disinterested in whatever was happening.
"What is it? What's happening?" Jangle
