Toby Scherzinger

For a long time I’ve been referring back to the character sheets I made back in 2019 as reference, but those are four years old now and a lot more characters have been created since then. Designs have changed slightly, my style has developed further, and my skill has improved in certain areas (it’s funny, since I used to think those old character sheets were as good as it would ever get). So, I think for my next big project I’m going to make new updated model sheets for every one of these characters from Locals Only, no matter how incidental. This will be incredibly useful, and I’ll also get to tack the updated biographies I’ve been writing up as well. So, without further ado:

Personality

Toby is serious, responsible, and claims that he doesn’t like to joke around. Oftentimes though he may be led astray by his comparatively juvenile friends to act up, though he comes to his senses quickly. As a result, he is often torn between his ethics, and his friends. His serious and responsible demeanor contrasts with the less mature antics of his peers, and his lack of familiarity with modern teenage culture and social cues contributes to his tendency to misunderstand situations. He’s as uptight as he is out of touch with his own generation. Toby's gullible traits, coupled with his idealism and faith in institutions, hint at his innocence and perhaps a touch of naivete. Because he simply doesn’t know a lot of lingo or really what normal teenagers like, he ends up missing a lot of social cues. Despite being perceived as a "jock," Toby seems to reject this label and sees his athletic pursuits as just things he happens to do. He participates in varsity football and baseball, but he doesn't define himself solely by those activities. His avoidance of conflict, pacifistic nature, and deep care for his reputation and record showcase his desire to keep things harmonious. There may be other reasons, like for example, The Royals, Povey’s resident greaser gang, who target preppy students. While some classmates may misjudge him and use unfavorable situations to confirm their biases, Toby's confidence and indifference to their opinions set him apart, and his preference for adult company highlights his desire for more mature interactions.

Biography

Born on the same day as his brother in July of 1939, Tobias Scherzinger and his family lived in a neighborhood of Povey until the summer of 1955 when his father moved the family to the nearby resort town of Cedarside. While the family was moving, the brothers were separated, with Toby helping out on his grandfather's farm while his brother, Billy, was sent to summer camp.

Appearance

Toby is 5'7", making him the shortest of his friends. He has golden-blonde hair, which is combed up in a flat-top style. He has gray fur with infrequent beige patches, and brown eyes. His most common outfit outside of school is his letterman jacket, sporting his first initial and the school's colors of maroon and white, light blue jeans, and white sneakers with red and blue lines. He typically dresses conservatively, wearing pressed pants and button-ups.

Skills and Abilities

Toby is a decent athlete, and is a member of the school's baseball and football team, assuming the roles of pitcher and tight-end respectively. Personality-wise, he is dependable, has a strong sense of morality, and is level-headed.

Weaknesses

Toby is a terrible actor. He hates lying as a matter of principle, so he has a hard time trying not to crack when coming up with a fib. This carries over to when he is forced to join the theater club as an elective to make up missing points and plays the character Curly in the play "Oklahoma!". He hates wearing shorts.

Jobs

While he has no permanent occupation, Toby has performed odd jobs in the past, namely working as a farmhand on his grandfather's farm outside of Povey.”
