Creating parent characters is necessary for fleshing out the world, and it not only adds more to the background of an already existing character, but the world as well as you decide what their occupation and role should be. Along with her friends, Darcy comes from an upper-middle class family. They live in a new neighborhood, and have a shiny new car. Darcy’s mother, Madison is a homemaker, and pays close attention to the latest trends and has the family home decorated with a style that’s perfectly in vogue. Darcy’s father, Cliff, works long hours at the sewage treatment plant, stuck in a cramped, windowless office doing paperwork from 8 AM to 6 PM. Neither of them are happy, and regret moving to the suburbs. They maintain a fake friendship with their neighbors, as well as with the parents of Lorraine and Ruby, who by contrast, are perfectly in their element living a cushy, modern life. Madison and Cliff miss their farm, the simpler life, and no longer find joy in the superficialities of their new lifestyle. They also believe it’s corrupted their daughter, and they disapprove of Lorraine and Ruby. As Cliff has become hollow and miserable, Madison does most of the disciplining, but Darcy never cares.
