Something my art’s been compared to before, and indeed an aesthetic I’ve tapped into before is “promotional/concept art for a canceled animated movie from the 90s”. I always love looking at old promotional material in magazines or posters, so I decided to make one for fun based on Locals Only. The process was pretty complicated, but it only took me about two hours to make. First, I made a background by decreasing the saturation and increasing the exposure on the Povey map I made a while back, then I copied the layout of a page from the Prima strategy guide for the game Quest64 (really). The full images were easy enough since I copied and pasted them in and put a purple border around them, but for the individual characters I had to make cutouts using that weird feature on iphone. This left them with a faint white outline, but I think it’s fine. This was just for fun after all. Lastly, I printed it out to give it that paper texture and authentic printed look. It’s a real novelty to me to have this physically printed out and in my possession since I made it digitally. Overall, it was a fun little time-wasting project.
