Kelly?

I already mentioned in www.deviantart.com/cardlin/art… that Kelly was a character intended for that old comic, Chasing Trains. She was meant to be the love interest that emotionally changed the main character, softening him and leading him to a positive character shift. As I never got that far in the story, she never made an appearance in the comic (although plenty of old art of her exists). I suppose it’s that reason that I forgot about her so easily, since when I made the transition to Locals Only, she was quite literally the only character that didn’t make the cut. I’ve been thinking about that lately, and I was pondering how I would go about reintroducing her. I ran into a number of problems though: firstly, I already have too many cat characters as is. Secondly, in her absence, different characters have absorbed her original role. Susan became the one who cozies up to Jesse and slowly softens his abrasiveness, and Lynn already has the whole doughy cat thing. So, from a character and visual standpoint, Kelly is…obsolete. I hate to say that, so I’m going to keep thinking of what I could do to revive her, but I already know that she should have a much reduced presence, since she already has a lot less importance by virtue of having characters that do her jobs better. One idea I had was that I hadn’t designed any of Lynn’s children yet, and I think it might work to have her be an incidental character. But then, I’d have to design four more cat characters. I also know I would want to change her name as well, since I already have a character (albeit unrelated to Locals Only) named Kelly. I’m not sure, I’ve got a lot to think about for this one, stay tuned.
