Personality
John is a local police officer, and one of the newer members of the PepperUpper Club. He is determined and passionate, driven by a strong desire to bring justice and make a difference in his community. He still lives with his parents, and like Avery, is very paranoid. That’s where their similarities end however, as the two don’t quite get along. While both are concerned about the town's crime problem, John's approach is rooted in pragmatism and a focus on real-world experience. His skepticism toward Avery's theories and crackpot fabrications is indicative of his reliance on facts and evidence rather than speculation. In John’s eyes, the problem they face is very clear, cut, and dry. According to John, he’s done more research, and has more ‘real world experience’ than Avery. It is at his job however where his bad temper and impatience is at full display. He gets along poorly with most of his coworkers, especially the town’s actual detective, Fred Matthews, whom John sees as a complete hack. His rivalry with Fred further highlights his determination to prove himself against someone he perceives as being unfit for the job. John is wired and twitchy, being quick to accuse others of things with little physical evidence, citing his own experience and ability to “read people”. The other officers aren’t fond of him either, and most of the time the department intentionally gives him boring and undesirable tasks to simply get rid of him. Annoyed as he may be, he dutifully completes these jobs while muttering curses under his breath.
Biography
Born in 1934, John has been enamored with crime-solving and police work since he was young. He would spend all his allowance as a kid on Dick Tracy comics, and hog the radio, eager to find the latest crime-drama. Given this inclination, it was only natural that he would go on to join the police force at the age of twenty-two. Imagine his surprise (and disappointment) when he discovered he wouldn’t be busting gangsters every other day, instead, organizing files in the archives. Now twenty-three, he has become jaded and somewhat cynical about the effectiveness of the local authorities, believing that he is the only one who wants to solve any actual crimes.
John drives a black and white 1950 Pontiac Silver Streak police cruiser. The words "Povey Police Dept." are painted on its sides.
John is equipped with a Colt Detective Special revolver, which he carries just about everywhere. It is standard issue for the Povey Police Department, although John is only a decent marksman, and still learning.
Appearance
John is 6’1” and thin. His messy hair is dark brown, and his fur is taupe. He has an unkempt appearance, including a five o’clock shadow, an improperly knotted tie that is perpetually loose, a coffee-stained white button-up shirt with the sleeves rolled up, and poorly ironed blue slacks.

Skills and Abilities
John is an excellent investigator with an eye for detail, able to draw conclusions naturally, and is willing to think outside the box. Despite this, he is down to earth, and questions theories that seem too outside the realm of plausibility. He also displays an incredible drive and devotion, willing to push himself further and further if it means achieving his goal. He questions authority, but also has respect for it.
Weaknesses
John is quick to anger, and very impatient. He focuses on tiny inconveniences, which can easily cloud his judgement. He is also too idealistic at times, and has unrealistic goals. His stubbornness also prevents him from working well with others that he previously has had disagreements with. He also drinks too much coffee.
Job
John has been a police officer since 1954, and worked on his parent’s farm during his youth.
