Description
“The odd name of Hyde-Saint Pepper is believed to have come from a mangled variation of ‘Hasenpfeffer’. Hasenpfeffer is a traditional German dish of stewed rabbit, and many agree that German settlers in the region named the street as such after the woodlands that once stood there, which was abundant with rabbit.“
A view of some of a storefront on E. Hyde-Saint Pepper St. The first building is the phone billing office, where Nicholas’ parents work. They’re employees of the Bell Company. The next store is the butcher shop, where Trudy’s father works. Finally, is the post office. I’ve wanted to draw these buildings for a while, but the large scale of it is what held me back. I used a larger size of paper than I normally do, and even then I had to zoom out the view a bit. In order to make sure it all fit I started with the widest building first, meaning I actually drew the whole thing from right to left. That needed up throwing off the perspective a bit, which I tried to fix. Nonetheless, I’m happy with it.
This street is very familiar, these are the kinds of buildings I see in the local small towns. You did a good job with these three different types of storefront buildings! Good amount of details like the brick and wall textures. I also like the signage on the windows. This kind of architecture is just something I still adore in real life and you represent all three buildings here so well.
