Personality
Gary was Avery's best friend, and a good friend of Jesse as well. While Jesse was more of a good-time Charlie, Avery and Gary were the closer ones. Their shared interest in conspiracy theories brought them together, and Avery held him in high regard due to his intelligence. Gary and Avery were always on the same page, and they valued each other’s insights and distrust in authority. Gary owned the gun shop, Gary’s World of Ballistics, where the two used the store's basement as a target range for their short-lived gun club, where they would discuss conspiracies between rounds, and listen to public radio. One day in 1952 however, Gary was killed when he supposedly accidentally shot the boiler in the basement. Avery was convinced that it was no accident, citing Gary’s expert marksmanship, and dedicated all his spare time to investigating as much as he could. This would lead to the creation of his own conspiratorial group, the PepperUpper Club, that masquerades as a hunting association but is secretly focused on uncovering and combating criminal activity in Povey.
Biography
Gary came from a long line of military men, and served during the Second World War in the Air Force, where he met Avery (although he served longer than his friend). He had lived his whole life in New Mexico prior to this, and after coming home from the Eastern Front, he was all set to return to his small shack in the desert. He would soon discover that his property had been seized by imminent domain, and would soon be paved over to build an airbase. With a generous sum of money in hand and no close family members, Gary moved across the country to Povey to be closer to Avery. His keen knowledge of firearms led him to opening a gun store, Gary’s World of Ballistics. The building was destroyed in the boiler explosion of 1952.
Gary drove a white and gray 1943 Buick Roadmaster; it was damaged in the explosion that caused his death, and later sold.
Appearance
Gary stood in at 5’10” with a thin build. He had light red hair combed to the side, and gray and white fur with dark stripes. He wore a puffy fluorescent coat with a target on its breast, khaki cargo pants, green rubber boots, and occasionally, gold-tinted safety goggles.
Friends:
- Avery
- Jesse
- Barnes
Enemies:
- Richard Dunhurst
- Nancy Peligni
Skills and Abilities
Gary was a foreword thinker, ingenuitive, and down to earth. He could make correct predictions based on little information, and was world-conscious. He was also very responsible, and genuine.
Weaknesses
Gary had no close ties to anyone, and was ultimately only loyal to himself as a result. He never had much, so when he eventually went on to find moderate success with his business, he still behaved as though he was financially unstable.
Job
Gary owned the town gun shop, Gary’s World of Ballistics, and would often relax in the basement of the business with Avery, or listen to public radio by himself.
Years later, some house flipper is going to have an unwelcome surprise when they get the lead remediation and abatement bill. Like when I discovered that a pervious homeowner used a hole in the ground to dispose of used motor oil.
