Personality

Delores is Annie’s best friend, and plays the clarinet in the school’s marching band. Often overlooked by the other students at school because of her lack of common interests, or because of her grating voice, Delores spends most of her time practicing her instrument, highlighting her commitment and determination. Despite her well-intentioned nature, Delores displays controlling and stuck-up behavior. This stems from her judgmental tendencies and a belief that she's looking out for Annie's best interests, even if it comes across as bossy. As a child, she never showed any aptitude for any talents, making her feel like a disappointment to her parents. When she finally picked up music though, she was ecstatic to find something she was good at, only to discover that her parents didn’t seem to care. This has molded her outlook on the world, as she now feels that like her, the arts don’t get the recognition they deserve. This drives her to study and push herself harder, and by extension, look down on others. Delores's assertion of moral superiority and tendency to look down on others could be a coping mechanism rooted in her need for validation and recognition. Delores makes her opinions known wherever she can, which is most places aside from around adults, where she instead shrinks and acts more humble in manner. This gets back to her desire to please her parents and other authority figures, an instinct which has come to dominate her life. Annie seems to excuse her friend’s bitter and cynical attitude, but isn’t afraid to tell her off when she’s in a bad mood, bringing her back down to earth temporarily.

Biography

The daughter of farmers, Delores was Annie's only friend for a long time. The two originally met in kindergarten, and remained social outcasts together until the 8th grade, when Annie and Toby began to get close. Understanding that Toby drew negative attention, specifically from The Royals, Delores worried deeply for her friend. Subconsciously though, she is also afraid of the only one she could truly relate to being taken away. She does have other friends, but none that she shares as much in common with as Annie.

Appearance

Delores is a short, chubby duck, standing in at 5'3". She has brown hair which she wears in a braid (usually over her right shoulder), and a plastic daisy clipped to her hair. Her plumage is white, her eyes are green, and she wears green-framed cat eye glasses. Delores dresses conservatively outside of school, usually wearing a pink shirt under a green argyle sweater-vest, purple skirt, and black Mary Jane shoes.

Delores is a great clarinet-player, and truly does care about her friends. She's loyal and protective, and always sees things through without giving up.

Weaknesses

Delores is a bit of a talker, and whether she means it or not, tends to spread gossip as a result. She can also accidentally let sensitive information slip without knowing it, which comes back to bite her later on. Delores has been known to hold long grudges as well, and hates being wrong.
