The Orion Nebula (also known as Messier 42, M42, or NGC 1976) is a diffuse nebula situated south of Orion's Belt. It is one of the brightest nebulae, and is visible to the naked eye in the night sky. M42 is located about 1,300 light years away and is the closest region of massive star formation to Earth. Also featured in this pic is M43 and a portion of The Running Man Nebula (NGC 1973, 1975 and 1977)

I have been itching to image this nebula properly ever since I got all my astrophotography setup working ok. It is currently only rising above the horizon at about 2am, which is not ideal, but I couldn't wait any longer, and the weather is still cold enough so that noise isn't much of an issue.

Could you really see something like this in the sky?..... you are really lucky.

You can certainly see this in the night sky but you need a telescope to zoom in to it like this image, otherwise it just looks like another star if you are looking at it with an unaided eye.  I don't know if you are familiar with the Orion constellation with the distinctive "belt" ad "sword" stars?  This nebula is actually the middle "star" of the "sword"

I'm not familiar, but it's still amazing. I've never seen photos like this.... I supposed you used a telescope, but I wasn't sure.
I'm willing to find more photos like this in deviantart, and aurora borealis (beautiful too). You're still lucky because you have a telescope to see them ^_^
I do a great job, I'm impressed...
PD: excuse me for me English.

Actually you can see the orion nebula with the naked eye except it will just look like a star with extra haze around it :)

Words just can't describe how beautiful this shot is Greg, I so envy your setup!

I love the tiny little details that can be made out, a really incredible shot.

After said conversation I would be happy acheiving something of a third of this quality and clarity!
