Shadow in the Desert

“A black horse in a desert? Are you sure you want to take Ghost out there?’ Matthew asked as William strapped the traveling boots on the young colt. William sighed as he stood up and nodded.

“Yes. He can handle it. We bought him from Arizona and they kept him alive for 6 years in that heat. Surely he can survive this heat too.” William explained and Matthew remained silent as he pet the dark colt who was oblivious to the conversation.

“Plus think how much he’ll stand out!” Alex commented as he walked by with Ironside to practice out in the outdoor arena. Luckily, the winter was starting to roll in just enough to cool things down a little. 

“Exactly. He’s going to make the judges watch him even more since he can’t be missed.” Matthew pointed out and the others just shrugged. 

“Aren’t you the one who likes darker colored horses? Did you really not think of this before?” Alex asked and William chuckled as he finished strapping the travel boots on.

“Yes but I’ve never taken them to a desert!” Matthew explained as William loaded the colt onto one of their smaller traveling trailers that usually only fit two horses in it.

“First time for everything…” Alex shrugged as he pulled himself up on Ironside and walked out towards the arena.
