Marvel OC : Efrain Baccay (Earth-ARV41)

Since he was a boy, Filipino-born Efrain Baccay has always dreamed to seek the other side of the clouds, but the airship accident forced him to life without his parents in the age of 15 instead. In order to survive, he joined a local thief gang in Manila called the Battlestings, and he alongside the rest of the members of the gang became notorious to the people of Manila for their radical actions against corrupt millionaires. From his action, Efrain was able to obtain Seversky P-35 plane via an unknown benefactor from the United States, who happened to be Howard Stark.

After the Japanese forces invade Manila on January 1942, Efrain joined the underground Filipino resistance movement, having monitoring the movement and advanced strategy of Japanese HYDRA division from days to days. This gain attention to the leader of the Japanese HYDRA, Ryuji Hiraoka, and Efrain was marked for death. Only after he was saved by Iron Fist (Orson Randall), he decided to leave the American Commonwealth of Phillipines for a while for the next few years.

Joining the Howling Commandos, he became the versatile pilot of the group, now commanding the Skytrain Douglas C-47; a massive upgrade from his past duty. He, alongside his fellow Asians like Jim Morita, Jalam (Muhammad Agnasatya aka Arya Maulana), lead the Commandos' victory in the European Theater, until he was eventually sent back to the Phillipines on 1945. Just like his Indonesian comrade Jalam in his homeland, Efrain decided to ward off the remaining HYDRA influences in the Phillipines.

After the WWII was over, Efrain remained a much more normal life in Quezon City, where he was eventually married and finally earned himself a family with 3 children. In the 1970s, he decided to pay a visit to Jakarta under the suggestion of SHIELD, where he recognize Arya's face the same as those of Muhammad Agnasatya, and the two decided to keep their recognition a secret.

So, here's Jalam's Filipino friend, Efrain Baccay! I'll be completely honest, while designing an OC is easy, in fact, naming OC is basically the hardest of all processes. Not to mention the attempt to expand the storyline when you accidentally got a new idea as well.

Side notes, back when I stayed in Bangkok for 2 years, I had few Filipino teachers who usually taught me Mathematics and English language. Particularly, I started becoming obsessed to books thanks to them as well.

For the designs, I particularly adopted the pose from The Rocketeer redesign by Adam McQuaig:

Secondly, I want to depict him as proto-Scott Lang type character, hence why I give his flight helmet nearly resembles that of Avengers : Endgame Quantum Suit helmet (because, Ant-Man), while still keeping the actual WW2 US Army Air Force helmet. I wanted to mix the WW2 bomber pilot and fighter pilot style here, and now, he's really that battle ready!
