Description
Horse's Name/Ref: Sunday Memory
Age: 7 Years Old
Class: RACE 2: "Firebreak Stakes" [G3] (ages 3 yrs +)
Race: The J.C. Monthly Show : February OPEN
Story:
When all was said and done, and Nichi was well on the mend, Waylon had decisions to make. One thing was where to send the horse in his next series of races, and whether or not they were going to lower his class or continue to put him in grueling races. The horse answered things for himself mostly, and when they started to heavily work him again he was putting up numbers he hadn't hit in some time. Thinking that perhaps this meant the classy stallion was finally ready for a real challenge Waylon sent him to Dubai, with the World Cup on the mind. So they wanted to get him into a prep race beforehand.
The Firebreak Stakes presented itself as a good option, it had been raced and won by some amazing champions and he just hoped his big black stallion had the chance to show his class in this race. The preparations for it were strenuous, between the holding in quarantine, the adjustment to temperature, and the actual work itself Nichi was proving himself to be extremely competent at coping. Under Colton's care and careful riding he seemed to be lighting up while once again training under the lights of Meydan.
As the race drew nearer things at Fox Harbor stole some of Waylon's attention, especially with the arrival of Takenshi. He needed a bit of special care so Waylon entrusted the last bit of Nichi's preparation to Colton before returning home before he'd been intending to. Now that it was left to Colton he did what he thought best, finding time to train the horse early in the mornings, letting him turn out and relax between works. Everything seemed to be going well, and so on race day, although Colton was alone with some folks hired to help just for the race, he felt confident in his horse.
Mounting up he relaxed in the saddle, though Nichi was feisty as always he didn't try to eat anyone today. At least not yet, once paraded to the gate he focused, leaning back against the apparatus and waiting for it to be thrown open. The moment he was free to run he barreled along, pulling to the outside of the pack to make a move to the front as was typical for his style of running.
