Both Ren and Waylon had seen a slight stiffness in Nichi after his workout with Maze, they had pushed both of the horses a bit harder than normal in preparation for the Cup and now Waylon had concerns on whether or not he'd pushed too hard. Nichi had finished first in his last out, and had been consistent in the money before then, whereas Maze had only had one race in her season so far and had not finished extremely well. Perhaps the push was more than they needed...
But Ren had suggested using the swimming pool this time, to do a lighter work out and give Nichi a change of pace. He took to it well, he'd been using it before he went to Fox Harbor and just eased into the water like he'd never left it. Snorting and keeping himself moving along well he took several laps around the pool before coming back out. While the soreness was still there, they were content to take some time off between now and the race. Which would allow Waylon to refocus on Maze.
