The Fox Harbor Farms team had been spending the last several weeks trying to school and calm down Nysh enough to make it to the starting gate of her first race. It had been crazy and stressful, and far too worrisome for Waylon. It'd been bad enough that he'd been plagued with indigestion all week as they did their final preps for this race, and he couldn't help but bury his face in his hands as Nysh had loaded up in the gate.
Because of his concerns he'd put his more seasoned jock on Nysh's back, but even Colton had expressed worries about whether or not Nysh was truly ready for this. Even when they were in the paddock and Waylon was saddling up both of his racers he had to tell Colton to try and make the best of it. Just be safe and make the best of it, if he felt like Nysh wasn't going to run just pull her up and finish dead last no need risking either of their lives for a few dollars. Colton had nodded and patted Nysh's neck, she'd been feisty the last few days but today she was calm and surveying the paddock and the crowd like a seasoned veteran.
When Colton entered that gate with Nysh he had no clue what she was going to do, they burst open and she burst forward rearing up into the gate and eating into the ground with her powerful shoulders. It caused her to break late but she recovered quickly and soon came alongside LWs White Silence. Colton was still trying to keep her under control but she was a loose cannon and in the back of his mind he could hear Waylon telling him to just be safe. But he also wanted to try and win, so he was going to do his best to do both.
