Story -
The team had been working with Nichi lately, trying to find the right discipline for him to retire into when his time at the track came to an end. He'd shown great aptitude so far for being willing to learn, but his attitude on the field well...it was about the same as it could be around the barns. Harley had taken a liking to polo lately, so he'd been working with Nichi as a polo prospect, a lot of OTTBs took that as their second career and knowing that Nichi was a fierce competitor he figured why not.
Training had been going well, and since Waylon had decided to hold a small Polo show during the shows on the farm, Harley decided that he and Nichi would represent them! The day was beautiful, and he spent the time getting Nichi tacked up and ready. He got him brushed out, shiny, and got his tail tied up. When he was all done he patted the stallions neck and gave him a gentle scritch on the nose. "What do you think bud? Want to go out there and have some fun?" Nichi snorted and flared his lips at Harley before bumping his head into the boy's hands. For as fierce as Nichi could be he'd taken a liking to the boy and seemed to mellow around him somewhat.
After their moment together Harley mounted up and relaxed in the saddle, it was definitely different than riding for racing or pleasure. But soon enough the game was a foot and they were charging down the field after the ball. Nichi was moving fast and as Harley moved into position to hit it Nichi moved wrong, his leg folded beneath him and the big stallion slammed both he and Harley into the ground with a resounding thud. Harley made a face but before he could move off Nichi's back the horse pulled up and stood with a huff.
Dismounting Harley held the reins and rubbed Nichi's neck before going down his legs and getting a good feel, he wanted to make sure the stallion was a-okay. Once he felt like Nichi was he pulled himself up and was back in the game!
