The Boys Are Back in Town

So I got a little ambitions on this because my tablet is fully functional again...The entire field is in here though some are seen more than others.

It was the day of the Melbourne Cup and the team at Fox Harbor was both nervous and excited, excited because they felt that Jagger was the best prepared for this race but nervous because their other runner Triton was extremely under prepared due to his injury. But he looked good, had the vet's clean bill of health, and was acting like his normal self on the way to the paddock. Waylon let Cecily decide if he was ready and she told him that there was no way they could scratch him now, he felt like a live wire beneath her and she wasn't going to take that away from him.

When they loaded into the gate, Jags loaded nice and easy and Colton just gently ran his fingers through his mane before knuckling down and leaning forward. It was time to get serious and Jagger responded instantly, lowering his hindquarters and readying them for the gate to fly open so he could charge out. Out of the corner of his eye he could see Cecily and Triton, the colt she was riding was throwing himself against the front of the gate and she looked to be having a hard time holding on.

"Triton! Calm down bud! It's alright, shh, easy now!" He was tossing his head and went to throw himself against the gate again when it flew open releasing all of the runners. Triton stumbled but he didn't let it get to him as he quickly gobbled up ground chasing the lead. Jagger had easily thrown himself out and with that extra push he was just ahead of Triton and in the mix of the field.

Jagger had been slighted a bit on the training side for this race, though he hadn't been ignored he definitely hadn't been worked at strenuously as usual which had left him quite rambunctious and eager to please. The early nervousness he'd shown around the FHF team had pretty much vanished but he was still a very vigilant horse. In the days leading up to the race he kept his eyes on Triton, his stablemate and paddock partner at the farm. He had known instantly when his friend had been hurt and had desperately tried to pull himself up that day to check on Triton.

In the days that followed his friend had been kept in his stall, something that had definitely concerned the horse but he knew that Triton had to heal, even while he got to go and have some fun without his buddy his mind was still on Triton and if he'd be okay or not. When the team shipped to Melbourne he'd leaned over and nosed against Triton on the plane, it was the first time they'd been together since the injury and he wanted to check on him! It was a few days after they arrived at the track  before Triton started working and the first morning Cecily took him out Jagger had whinnied and nickered his excitement at them until they disappeared from his view at the barn.

Now on race day they were going into the gate, but once again were separated from each other. Jagger tilted his head to check on Triton, seeing his friend slam into the gate door he nickered at him and tried to urge him to calm down so he wouldn't hurt himself! There wasn't much time though and Colt was asking him to focus, so he did, even though one ear kept itself turned towards Triton and his struggle with the gate. Once the gates opened he rushed out as he'd been trained to do and fought to try and lead Triton back into the race, sure he should have been focused on winning especially with Ghost, Apollo, and Blackbeard on his tail but he wanted to make sure his friend stood a chance too!
