Story:
This was to be Nysh's last race, at the end of this year Nysh was going to be retired and though Waylon was disappointed he knew that she would be better suited in a different discipline. She'd already shown she was a good broodmare, and though her racing experience was short and she had shown very little competitive spirit he rather liked the mare. So today was a little bittersweet for him. After today she had a planned breeding, and then when the foal was weaned Waylon was planning on transitioning her to a lead pony role. It would keep her on the track, and working, but would allow her to have more of a life of leisure.
Colton knew going in that all they wanted of Nysh was to get just another race under her belt before she was sent to the pasture. He had spent the right amount of time with her, working her over the snow laden track and hoping she would show well. But at the end of the day she'd done enough, by worming her way into their hearts and showing everyone that sometimes you just needed to do something else to be happy. And Nysh seemed happiest when she was working with other horses at FHF, not when she was on the track on her own.
Mounting up he decided not to do the face mask or the gloves for the first race of the day, Nysh hadn't been able to pull ahead of many horses before so he didn't think he'd get much snow in his face and he'd have the goggles anyway. Besides, that stuff was hot and he had two more races to prepare for! Taking a breath he ran his hand up and down her neck as they trotted along. "What do you think big girl? Ready for one last run?"
She nickered at him and kept going wherever he directed her, she was super easy to work with which was lovely. "And then you have bigger and better things to do don'tcha girl?"
Nysh tossed her head, she was pretty excited about having another foal! And to be honest, she was much happier with babies than she was racing. This was just not her cup of tea!
