The Mix of Iron and Blood: Chapter Thirteen

Unseen Previous Chapter The rain had stopped sometime before dawn, but it seemed like no one had let the jungle know. Water still came down through the canopy in its own time, in fat irregular drops that struck the broad leaves below like knuckles on a door. Everything dripped. Everything steamed as the heat came up. Elkog had given up on the idea of being dry two days ago, somewhere between the river and that abandoned village, and now simply walked wet, his trousers stuck to his skin and his boots making a squelching sound at every step that he had started to hate. Michelle set the pace, because she was still regaining her strength after being healed. She did not complain about it, she simply walked with her head down and her hand out for branches, and every so often she stopped without warning and stood with her eyes closed, breathing, while the rest of them waited and gave her the time she needed. Then she would say "right" and start again. They had been doing that since first

From Maggie to Margareta

A Story of Freedom Growing Safer and Safer Do you really think you get to decide for yourself, you little fool? Do you vote for MAGA or the AfD out of conviction? The fact is that you have fears, and Trump and the AfD exploit them. They twist the truth until the lie becomes the one and only truth. This story shows how you follow the wolves to the slaughterhouse like a sheep, through the distortion of truth and the deliberate stoking of fear. Because you are too stupid and too cowardly to admit your mistake, you also cheer them on. Chapter 1 – Maggie Maggie Hartmann was thirty-three years old, five foot four, blonde and blue-eyed. She had been a member of the SPD in a German state parliament for four years. [DEVIATION] She liked her job. Not every committee meeting or party conference, and certainly not the evenings when a scheduled one-hour meeting at the community centre would turn into a three-hour discussion about a motion that nobody would understand afterwards. But

Now after wandering in the desert, seemingly alone, she comes face to face with a sparkling horse, absent a shadow. She approached it and the horse spoke. It called itself, Majikili . It said it had been eaten by a door many years ago and brought to this desert. It continued to explain. Said it traveled many miles for a very long time. Diana pondered how to escape when a horse had gone farther already and found no exit. She pondered and pondered and realized maybe the exit wasn't a location but a state of being. So, she talked with the Majikili , and it told her where it came from, treasures and lands she never knew existed. But Diana never asked to ride Majikili and MAjikili never offered. But when a sandstorm was approaching them from a clear distance. MAjikili offered to allow Diana to

That wasn’t to suggest anything was going wrong or that you were uncomfortable, but that things were becoming slow...and boring. Or maybe Gilbert was rubbing off on you, and you thought so by now. Overall, life was good: the people were slowly and steadily earning your trust, although the silver stallion remained at the top of that list, and he gave you subtle hints that he was pleased by your progress. In the last two weeks, you’d allowed a full wash down, cleaned hooves and the simplest of shoes, a well-brushed mane and tail, a woolen stable blanket and, most impressive of all, an embroidered leather (f/c) halter with your personal lead rope. The people didn’t often use the rope, however, because you still went wherever you chose. As for Gilbert, the two of you continued to grow

The curl on his head was long enough to tickle the other side of your neck and when he lifted his head to meet your gaze, you saw his blue eyes held nothing but respect and adoration. “You don’t have to explain anything,” he said, his voice much softer. “You’re my best friend. Besides, we make a good team, don’t we? Yeah...” He nodded, suddenly confident. “If I’m the Hero, then you’re my sidekick! So, as long as we’re together, we can do anything we want!” You had to whicker a chuckle to yourself. Sometimes he could be so cute when he got excited. Because it was just you and him here, he always gave you attention and asked how you were doing or if you needed anything. His concern was touching and made you feel protected, mainly because you had always protected yourself in the wild. You also saw the benefit of sleeping in a stall every night; you didn’t fear the hooting of owls, but you often flinched when the bushes rustled during the night, even among your herd. In the safety of the little barn, there was no need to startle and you enjoyed the company of the moon and stars. And Matthew. Even he must know by now that you were grateful for his help.
