Race: Prix du Moulin de Longchamp -
(France) in the J.C. International Race Series
Horse: Sunday Memory
This was another exciting day for the international traveler Sunday Memory, he had been planning to come to France for another race in the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe and shipped early for the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp as well. Both were to be raced over the Longchamp Racecourse and Waylon was incredibly excited about what this meant for their big stallion. He had a lot of impressive races in his resume, but not as many with FHF so it was important that he continue to prove his merit and show these folks in France exactly what he was made of.
During their stay here Cecily had taken to sleeping inside the barn with Nichi and Kit Kat, sticking close to the stallion and being right there if he needed anything or wanted anything. She exercised him every morning out on the great green grass of Longchamp and she kept begging Waylon to consider letting her stay with the stallion at Newmarket after these races were over so he could get even more experience before being pointed at the Royal Ascot next year. Nichi seemed to acclimate very well over here and it was obvious that the big horse with the bigger heart had a lot of racing ahead of him, and a lot riding on his shoulders for the team at Fox Harbor Farms.
The anxiety was building as they got closer to race day, and all Cecily wanted to do was ask her brother to switch mounts with her and allow her to ride the stallion. But she refrained, she knew that Colton would be better on him than she would and she just took up a seat next to Waylon in the owner's box and waited holding her breath. As the horses went to the gate she closed her eyes and said a silent prayer, asking for the big stallion to make it through the race unscathed, for her brother to ride valiantly, and for Nichi to further prove himself to anyone who was watching that he was a force to be reckoned with. What she wanted wasn't impossible, but it was a lot to ask for.
Waylon noticed her silent prayer and reached over to squeeze her arm, "He's ready for this, just watch he'll show us."
Cecily opened her eyes then and watched as the horses tore off down the grassy lane, she watched and gasped with every close bump or change in position that made her stomach unsettle. She just wanted good things for her brother and Nichi! And then she saw the big stallion hit his stride and her brother raise the whip for the first time, he didn't look fatigued, but rather they both looked focused, they both looked intense and even as the saddle cloth bounced around and the flag flashed from beneath it all she could say to Waylon was. "You're right, they are ready..."
